September 8, 2011 -- The home opener between the Emporia State soccer team and Northeastern Oklahoma St. did not see a goal for the first 45 minutes, then saw two in a two minute window. ESU fell in their home opener to the Riverhawks 2-1 in a game that saw 11 shots on goal.

NEOSU struck first a mere 22 seconds into the second half as Renee Valcarcel scored from 35 yards out over the head of the ESU goal keeper. The Hornets answered one minute and twenty-four seconds later as Jordan Foutch scored off a Sarah Anderson pass to even the game at 1-1. Five Hornets had shots on goal as Foutch notched her first goal of the season and Anderson her first assist. Natalie Hoernig made three saves and ESU got one important team save to keep the Riverhawks off the board.

ESU will return to action on Sept. 13 when they travel to Wayne State (Neb.) for a scheduled 4 p.m. game.
