A CLASSIC
Emporia State wraps up a three week stretch of competing in multi day meets at the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State. Action starts on Friday with field events at 2:00 p.m. followed by running events at 3:00 p.m. Both track and field events will start at noon on Saturday.
LAST LAP
Emporia State had eight provisional qualifiers including a school record at the Bearcat Invite in Maryville, Mo. The Hornets had a total of five top three finishes and three new ESU top five marks.
Stella Agbokpah broke her own school record with a time of 24.06 to place second in the Invitational 200m and earn MIAA Track Athlete of the Week honors. It is the top time in the MIAA and ranked sixth in the nation. She added another provisional time in the prelims of the 60m. She ran 7.63 to tie her own second best mark in ESU history before finishing sixth with a time of 7.66 in the finals.
Barbara Bentum ran 24.96 to win the open 200m and move into a tie for fourth all-time at ESU.
Connor Deters moved into fourth all-time at ESU with a provisional mark of 17.61m (57-09.50) to finish second in the shot put.
Zach Sulzen-Watson went 16.51m (54-02.00) to finish sixth in the shot with a provisional qualifier.
Ezekiel Seamster ran 6.78 for the second fastest time in the prelims and then turned in a 6.82 in the finals to finish in fifth place, both of them provisional qualifiers.
Emmanuel Dukpe had a provisional qualifier of 48.21 to place fourth in the invitational 400m.
The Hornets ended the day with another provisional qualifier as the foursome of

Emmanuel Dukpe ran 3:14.03 to finish second in the men's 4x400m relay.
Isabella Davie hit her second provisional qualifying mark of the season with a total of 3406 points in the women's pentathlon. She ran 2:18.70 to finish second in the 800m and move up three spots in the final event.
Mia Manley tied her career best indoor mark of 3.57m (11-08.50) to place second in the women's pole vault.
THE COACH
Seth Mischke is in his third year as the head coach for the Emporia State track and field programs. The Hornets have produced six MIAA individual champions and seven All-Americans in the first two years under his leadership. Before coming to Emporia State he spent one year at Chadron State. Eagle throwers earned five All-America awards and four RMAC Championships. Prior to Chadron State, Mischke spent 11 seasons as the head track and field coach at Black Hills State University. The Yellow Jackets produced two individual national champions, 18 All-America earners, 18 conference champions, and more than 100 All-RMAC honorees under his guidance. Mischke was the head coach at St. Cloud State for 12 years. During his tenure at SCSU, the Huskies had 44 All-Americans and one national champion.
PROVISIONAL QUALIFIERS
The Hornets have recorded 12 active NCAA Provisional qualifying marks this season. Seven Emporia State men have nine qualifying marks in six events. Four Emporia State women have three active qualifying marks in two events.
IN THE MIAA
Emporia State has a top three mark in the MIAA in four events from three different individual athletes and a relay. The Hornets have a total of 22 top ten marks in the Association, 12 for the men and ten for the women.
Stella Agbokpah has the top time in the women's 200m at 24.06 at the Bearcat Invite.
Ezekiel Seamster is second in the men's 200m at 21.48 at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
Luke Grace scored a converted 5119 points in the UCCS Pre-Holiday to rank second in the men's heptathlon.
Israel Domeh is third in the men's 200m behind Seamster with a time of 21.55 at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
The women's distance medley relay is ranked third after running 12:41.95 at the Bearcat Invite.
LAST TIME AT THE GORILLA CLASSIC
Emporia State had three provisional qualifier and six top ten finishes at the 2023 Gorilla Classic.
Travis Morrison just missed a personal best with his provisional qualifying mark of 17.40m (57-1) in the men's shot put. He finished sixth overall in the event.
Megan McManis had a provisional qualifier of 3.73m (12-2.75) to place eighth in the pole vault.
The foursome of Jack Watson, Guy Ramos, Brock Merz, and Hayden Goodpaster picked up the other provisional qualifier for Emporia State. They combined to run 3:16.97 and finished ninth in the 4x400m relay.
Abigael Reid placed second with a personal best time of 1:25.30 in the women's 600 yard run while Jasmine Hurla ran a season's best 1:26.75 to place sixth in the event.
Alyssa Conway was eighth with a toss of 16.20m (53-2) in the women's weight throw.
Emma Seidl had the other top ten finish for Emporia State. Her mark of 12.26m (40-2.75) was good enough for tenth in the women's shot put.
EVENT SQUAD RANKINGS
The Hornets are ranked in the top 25 of four women's events and two men's events in the Division II Event Squad Rankings.

HORNETS IN THE ESU ALL-TIME TOP FIVE INDOORS
A total of 16 current Hornets have a combined for 21 top five marks in 12 events all-time at Emporia State indoors.
Ty Anderson is the school record holder in the men's 60m at 6.68 at the 2025 MIAA Championships and fourth in the 200m with a 21.42 at the WU Open last year.
Jonah Remsberg is second in the men's heptathlon with 5265 points at the 2025 MIAA Championships.
Emmanuel Dukpe is second in the men's 400m with a 47.44 at last year's MIAA Championships.
Israel Domeh is third in the men's 200m at 21.26 at the 2025 MIAA Championships and fifth in the 400m with a 48.09 at last year's Bearcat Invitational.
Max Neeley is potentially redshirting this season but is third in the men's pole vault after going 4.93m (16-02) at the Ichabod Invitational last year.
Connor Deters is fourth in the men's shot put at 17.61m (57' 9.5) at this year's Bearcat Invite.
Dylan Hunter is fourth in the men's 5000m after running 14:44.44 at the Washburn Open.

Luke Grace is fifth with 5135 points in the men's heptathlon at the 2025 MIAA Championships.

TRACK TOWN USA - DIVISION II STYLE
Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Zola Witten Track will host the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It will be the fifth time that Welch Stadium has played host to the national championships.
Welch Stadium previously served as the host site for the National Championships in 1995, 1999, 2006, and 2024 with the first meet in 1995 bringing 450 student-athletes to Emporia. The 2026 meet is scheduled to bring 754 student-athletes, nearly 200 coaches and over 100 officials to the Flint Hills over the Memorial Day weekend.
The 2026 Championships are scheduled for May 21-23.
During championship week, the NCAA Committee will come to Emporia on Monday with the first practice time available on Tuesday. Wednesday of championship week will see a variety of coaches and officials meetings before the actual competition begin on Thursday. The meet will wrap up on Saturday evening.
After playing host to the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Emporia State was the site of the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships. It was the seventh time Welch Stadium has served as host of the conference championships since 1997.
