June 20, 2025-Emporia State Athletics posted a school record 3.48 department wide GPA for NCAA sports during the spring of 2025 as 12 of 13 programs (indoor and outdoor track & field are combined) maintained at least a 3.05 GPA for the semester. The department wide GPA that includes non-NCAA sports was 3.46 with a total of 235 of the 318 student-athletes at Emporia State for the spring semester maintaining a 3.00 GPA during the semester while 79 had a 4.00 GPA.

Colleen Mischke. "Day in and day out these athletes pour endless energy into being successful for their teams and then they turn around and work tirelessly to achieve academic success and earn an Emporia State degree. We are incredibly proud of their commitment to both areas."

This is the 33rd straight semester the Hornets have posted at least a 3.0 department wide GPA and the 3.48 is the highest department wide GPA since Emporia State began keeping records of it in 2007. The 79 Hornets with a 4.00 GPA represent 34 different majors and every athletic program.

The women's soccer program had a department wide high GPA of 3.86 as all 16 members of the squad had at least a 3.00 GPA with five boasting a 4.00 for the semester.
Volleyball was close behind with a 3.82 team GPA for the spring with five players recording a 4.00 and every player on the spring roster posting at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester.

The five runners on the spring women's cross country roster had a 3.73 team GPA and helped contribute to a 3.72 mark of the entire women's track & field team. Of the 33 members of the track and field team, 30 held a 3.00 GPA with 19 4.00 students.

All 12 members of the men's tennis team had a 3.00 GPA to give the team a combined 3.63 that led all men's programs. Two Hornets had a 4.00 for the semester.

Women's tennis held a combined 3.62 during the spring. Eight of nine players had at least a 3.00 GPA while four players recorded a 4.00 GPA during their semester of competition.

Sheriden Wichman were two of the 4.00 students and shared the MIAA Women's Tennis A Game Scholar Award.

The 12 members of the Lady Hornet basketball team recorded a 3.60 team GPA with seven players earning a 4.00 and eight going over the 3.00 mark.

Softball had 17 of 19 players recording a 3.00 or better on the way to a 3.59 team GPA. A total of six achieved a 4.00 GPA for the semester.

The men's track & field team is the second largest squad on campus and they had a 3.27 team GPA. A total of 43 of 57 track student-athletes earned a 3.00 GPA with 14 hitting the 4.00 mark. Three of the 14 with 4.00's were in cross country and they had a team GPA of a 3.28.

Baseball had 29 of 38 players hit the 3.00 mark for GPA with five holding a 4.00 GPA for the spring, including the MIAA Baseball A Game Scholar

Football is the largest team on campus and their 87 spring players combined for a 3.05 team GPA. The Hornets had seven players record a 4.00, including  College Sports Communicators Academic All-American defensive back
Tyler Schultze while 47 players posted at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester. The Hornets have had an Academic All-American for each of the last nine seasons, the longest active streak in the nation.

Men's basketball had seven of their 12 players reach a 3.00 GPA with a team GPA of 2.83.

In addition to the NCAA athletic programs, Emporia State also reported the team GPAs of the disc golf program. The men had a 3.25 team GPA with
Justin Farrell and
Cade Kohlmeier earning 4.00s while the women reported a 3.21 combined GPA with 4.00 GPA going to
Maya Ringgold and
Rebekah Thompson.
