June 16, 2026-On a beautiful summer day, a total of 25 teams took part in the Emporia State Athletics Summer Classic Golf Tournament on Friday at the Emporia Golf Course. The event made it's return after a four-year absence and wrapped up a two-day celebration of Hornet Athletics.

The foursome of Brody Peak, Mac McFarland, Drew Judd, and Dalton Laird won the championship flight on a scorecard playoff with the group of Dave Watts, Gentry Scheve, Jordan Muench, and Chris Vahsholtz.  Both teams shot a 52 (-19) in the four-person scramble with Peak's team winning in the scorecard playoff with a better back nine.

Eric Porter, Mark Porter, Derek Nielsen, and Elliot Nielsen shot 62 (-9) and won in a scorecard playoff Saylor Middleton, Kathy Pimple, Garrett Pimple, and Wyatt Schultz. They had to go to the fifth tiebreaker to finally get a decision.

The individual hole prize winners were Bill McKernan for the closest to the pin on hole #5, Drew Judd for longest drive on #16 and John Martin for the longest putt on hole #17.

This was the first time since 2022 that Emporia State Athletics played host to a golf tournament and the first time since 2019 that it was paired with a Pre-Party Dinner the night before. Thursday evening's Pre-Party at Champions Landing saw just 12 auction items go for $25,000 with nearly $50,000 brought in over the two days to help the intercollegiate athletics programs at Emporia State.
