Emporia State Athletics Posts Second Highest Department Wide GPA in Spring

Hornet NCAA sports have 3.47 combined GPA in spring semester

June 18, 2026-Emporia State Athletics posted a 3.47 department wide GPA for NCAA sports during the spring of 2026 as every NCAA program maintained at least a 3.15 GPA for the semester. The department wide GPA that includes non-NCAA sports was 3.45 with a total of 300 of the 359 student-athletes at Emporia State for the spring semester maintaining a 3.00 GPA during the semester while 86 had a 4.00 GPA.
 
This is the 35th straight semester the Hornets have posted at least a 3.0 department wide GPA and the 3.47 is the second highest department wide GPA since Emporia State began keeping records of it in 2007. The 77 Hornets with a 4.00 GPA represent 22 different undergraduate and five graduate majors and every athletic program.
 
The women's cross country program had a department wide high GPA of 3.82 as all 11 of 12 members of the squad had at least a 3.00 GPA with eight boasting a 4.00 for the semester.

Soccer was next with a 3.72 team GPA for the spring with five players recording a 4.00 and 30 of 32 players on the spring roster posting at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester.
 
Softball and volleyball each posted a 3.60 GPA in the spring. Softball had 22 of 24 players with a 3.00 GPA and six 4.00s while volleyball saw 18 of 19 players on the spring roster achieve a 3.00 with five hitting the 4.00 mark.
 
Track and field is the largest women's team on campus with 35 student-athletes and they finished the semester with a 3.51 team GPA. Including the cross country runners a total of 30 women's track and field athletes earned a 3.00 GPA and 16 posted a 4.00 GPA for the semester.
 
The Lady Hornet basketball team saw 13 of 15 players reach the 3.00 mark for the semester with a total of four recording a 4.00 GPA.  As a team the Lady Hornets posted a 3.39 GPA in the spring.
 
Women's tennis had a 3.30 team GPA with six of eight players having a 3.00 and two with a 4.00 GPA in the semester.
 
The Hornet baseball team had 31 of 39 players hit the 3.00 GPA to lead the men's programs with a 3.54 team mark with five players posting 4.00 GPAs for the spring.   
 
Men's basketball was close behind them with a 3.50 team GPA and 14 of 15 players hitting the 3.00 mark. Two Hornet hoopers had 4.00s during the spring semester.
 
The men's tennis team record a 3.42 GPA with ten of 11 players achieving a 3.00 and one player with a 4.00 for the semester.
 
Men's track and field has 57 athletes with 47 of them posting at least a 3.00 GPA for a team mark of 3.31 in the spring with nine recording a 4.00 GPA. Cross country was included in that total with 10 of 11 harriers reaching a 3.00 GPA for a 3.29 team mark. Both of the tracksters with a 4.00 came from cross country.

Football is the largest team on campus and their 93 spring players combined for a 3.15 team GPA. The Hornets had 11 players record a 4.00, including College Sports Communicators Academic All-American defensive back Tyler Schultze while 62 players posted at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester including Academic All-American Landon Boss. The Hornets have had at least one Academic All-American for each of the last ten seasons, the longest active streak in the nation.
 
In addition to the NCAA athletic programs, Emporia State also reported the team GPAs of the disc golf program. The women had a 3.65 team GPA with two 4.00s while the men reported a 3.00 combined GPA with 4.00 GPA for two players. A total of 13 out of the 17 disc golfers, including three fourths of the D2 national championship team had at least a 3.00 GPA in the spring.
