February 28, 2025-Emporia State had a solid day one of the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Maryville, Mo. Emporia State had two women score in the pentathlon while the Hornet men hold two of the top three spots after day one of the heptathlon.
Isabella Davie had three personal bests out of the five events in the women's pentathlon for a provisional qualifying total of 3,470 points and fifth place finish. She won the 800m in a personal best of 2:17.98 and had a PR of 9.48 in the 60m hurdles on the track. Her other individual best was a mark of 10.47m (34-4.25) in the shot put. She cleared 1.49m (4-10.50) in the high jump and went 5.28m(17-4.00) to place seventh in both of the jumping events.
Isabel Vikoler also scored points for the Hornets, finishing in seventh place with a personal best of 3,125 points. She started the day with her best placing by running 9.25 in the 60m hurdles to finish fourth. She then tied her career best of 1.49m (4-10.75) in the high jump. She threw 8.38m (27-6.00) in the shot put and jumped 5.31m (17-5.75) in the long jump before finishing the competition with a time of 2:38.66 in the 800m.
Scarlett Begley also scored a personal best with 2,935 points to place tenth overall. She had personal bests in both of the running events with a 9.55 in the 60m hurdles and 2:47.34 in the 800m.
After one event the Emporia State women are in third place with six points.
Luke Grace had the top mark in both jumping events of the heptathlon to help put himself in a tie for first place with Pittsburg State's Doug Brown at 3028 points after four events. He tied his personal best with a leap of 7.13m (23-4.75) in the long jump and was the only person to clear 1.98m (6-6.00) in the high jump. He ran a personal best of 7.15 in the first event of the day the 60m to finish in sixth place. His mark of 11.36 (37-3.25) was good enough for fifth in the shot put.
Jonah Remsberg is in third place with 2912 points. His best finish was a second place mark of 7.10m (23-3.50) to place behind Grace in the long jump. He had personal bests of 7.04 in the 60m and 1.86m (6-1.25) in the high jump. His mark of 10.68m (35-0.50) was good enough for eighth in the shot put.
Action will get back underway on Saturday morning with the final three events of the men's heptathlon starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Hughes Fieldhouse in Maryville, Mo. The first regular field events will start at 1:30 p.m. with the first running events scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
