BACK UP THE TURNPIKE  
Emporia State makes the last of four trips up the Turnpike to take part in the Ichabod Invitational this weekend. 

LAST LAP
Emporia State had six provisional qualifiers, an event champion and three runner-up finishes on Saturday at the Bearcat Invite.
Connor Deters continued his move up the Emporia State record books in the men's shot put.  He went 17.07m (56-00) to move into third place on the Emporia State all-time list.
Max Neeley was second in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.81m (15-9.25) to place second with a provisional qualifier.
Trenden Collins made the provisional mark for the first time this year, clearing 2.04m (6-8.25) to place fourth in the men's high jump.
Competing in the men's invitational 400m, Emmanuel Dukpe ran the second fastest time in Emporia State history.  His time of 47.79 was good for fourth place.
Israel Domeh had provisional marks in two events.  He ran 48.09 in the open 400m to place fourth and move into fifth in the event in Emporia State history. He came back with a 21.63 to place fourth in the men's 200m.
Abigael Reid won the women's 600 yard run to highlight the Emporia State women's performance on Saturday in Maryville.

THE COACH
Seth Mischke is in his second year as the head coach for the Emporia State track and field programs. The Hornets have produced four MIAA individual champions and an All-American under his leadership. Before coming to Emporia State he spent one year at Chadron State. Eagle throwers earned five All-America awards and four RMAC Championships. Prior to Chadron State, Mischke spent 11 seasons as the head track and field coach and assistant cross country coach at Black Hills State University. The Yellow Jackets produced two individual national champions, 18 All-America earners, 18 conference champions, and more than 100 All-RMAC honorees under his guidance. Mischke was the head track and field/cross country coach at St. Cloud State for 12 years. During his tenure at SCSU, the Huskies had 44 All-Americans and one national champion.

 A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
Emporia State has 14 provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships from ten different student-athletes.
Jonah Remsberg is ninth in the nation in the men's heptathlon with an adjusted total of  5,238 points at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Multi. He is fourth in the MIAA.  He is also ranked 32nd in the nation and third in the MIAA in the long jump with a mark of 7.23m (23-8.75) during his heptathlon in Colorado Springs.
Ty Anderson is 17th in the nation and ranked sixth in the MIAA in the men's 60m dash. He ran 6.73 at the WU Alumni Invite. He is also ranked eighth in the MIAA and 18th in the nation with a time of 21.42 in the 200m at the Washburn Open. 
Connor Deters is third in the MIAA and 18th in the nation with a mark of 17.07m (56-0) in the men's shot put at the Bearcat Invite.
Luke Grace scored a 4,979 points at the Washburn Open heptathlon to rank eighth in the MIAA and 24th in the nation.
Max Neeley went 4.88m (16-0.00) at the Rumble in the Jungle to rank 27th in the nation and eighth in the MIAA in the men's pole vault. 
Emmanuel Dukpe is sixth in the MIAA and 32nd in the nation in the men's 400m after running 47.70 at the Bearcat Invite.  
Israel Domeh ran 21.57 in the men's 200m at the Rust Buster to rank 35th in the nation and tenth in the MIAA. He turned in a 48.09 at the Bearcat Invite to rank eighth in the MIAA and 40th in the nation in the men's 400m. 
Trenden Collins cleared 2.04m (6-8.25) in the high jump at the Bearcat Invite to rank eighth in the MIAA and 34th nationally.
Mele Taula has a pair of provisional qualifiers. She is ranked seventh in the nation and third in the MIAA after going 15.15m (49-8.5) in the women's shot put at the WU Alumni Invite.  At the Rust Buster she threw 17.20m (56-5.25) to rank 34th nationally and eighth in the MIAA in the weight throw.
Isabella Davie scored a total of 3,320 points in the pentathlon at the Washburn Open. She is ranked fifth in the MIAA and 30th in the nation.

EVENT SQUAD RANKINGS
The Emporia State men are ranked in the top 20 of eight different events in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings.
The 200 meter group of Ty Anderson, Israel Domeh, Emmanuel Dukpe and Braden Lipgens are ranked fifth in the nation while the high jump quartet of Trenden Collins, Will Allen, Jaxon Russell and Luke Grace are ranked seventh and Jonah Remsberg, Luke Grace, Ty Anderson and Fabian Nava make up the tenth ranked long jump group in the nation.
The Emporia State women have two groups in the top 20 nationally with the foursome of Mele Taula, Emma Seidle, Tailynn Buettgenbach and Madison Vermetten ranked 14th in the shot put with Taula and Vermetten joined by Rachelle Reichert and Avery Redmon to rank 20th in the weight throw in the nation.

HORNETS IN THE ESU ALL-TIME TOP FIVE
Eight current Hornets have a combined for 11 top five marks in nine events all-time at Emporia State.
Ty Anderson is second in the men's 60m at 6.73 at the WU Alumni Invite and third in the 200m with a 21.42 at the WU Open.
Jonah Remsberg is second in the men's heptathlon with 5213 points at the UC-Colorado Springs Multi.
Emmanuel Dukpe is second in the men's 400m with a 47.79 at the Bearcat Invitational.
Israel Domeh is fourth in the men's 200m at 21.57 at the WU Rust Buster and fifth in the 400m with a 48.09 at the Bearcat Invitational.
Max Neeley is fourth in the men's pole vault at 4.88m (16-00) the Rumble in the Jungle.
Connor Deters is fourth in the men's shot put at 17.07m (56-00) at the Bearcat Invitational.
Mele Taula is second the women's weight throw with a mark of 17.55m (57-7) at last year's Ichabod Invitational and third in the shot put at 15.15m (49-8.25) this season's WU Alumni Invite.
Abigael Reid is fourth in the women's pentathlon with 3582 points at the 2023 MIAA Championships.

RETURNING NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
Emporia State returns six athletes that provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships last year.
Mele Taula finished tenth in the nation in the indoor shot put last year for Emporia State.  She was also ranked 34th in the indoor weight throw.
Ty Anderson was ranked 23rd in the nation in the 60m dash and 70th in the indoor long jump.  
Kingsley Bennett joined Anderson as a provisional qualifier in the 60m, ranking 37th in the nation.
Trenden Collins was ranked 35th in the nation in the indoor high jump last season.
Coby Smith rounds out the returning qualifiers, ranking 47th in the nation last year in the indoor heptathlon.

MIAA PRESEASON POLL
The MIAA released the preseason coaches polls in men's and women's indoor track and field earlier this year. The Hornet men were ranked eighth and the women 11th in the preseason polls. 

TRACK TOWN USA - DIVISION II STYLE
After playing host to the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Emporia State will be the site of the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships. It will be the seventh time Welch Stadium has served as host of conference championships since 1997.
Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Zola Witten Track will host the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  It will be the fifth time that Welch Stadium has played host to the national championships.
Welch Stadium previously served as the host site for the National Championships in 1995, 1999, 2006, and 2024 with the first meet in 1995 bringing 450 student-athletes to Emporia. The 2026 meet is scheduled to bring 754 student-athletes, nearly 200 coaches and over 100 officials to the Flint Hills over the Memorial Day weekend.
The 2026 Championships are scheduled for May 21-23.
During championship week, the NCAA Committee will come to Emporia on Monday with the first practice time available on Tuesday.  Wednesday of championship week will see a variety of coaches and officials meetings before the actual competition begin on Thursday.  The meet will wrap up on Saturday evening.
