September 27, 2024-Competing in their largest meet of the year so far, the Emporia State men and women both placed 18th out of nearly 30 teams competing at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo. on Friday morning.

There were nearly 400 runners in the men's eight kilometer race.Â
Dylan Hunter was the top finisher for the Hornets running 25:39.1 to place 91st overall.Â
Luke Gleason ran 25:48.5 to place 106th and
Treyton Laurance was 120th in 25:58.4 to round out the top three for the Hornets. All three ran season bests for an eight kilometer course with Hunter and Laurance posting collegiate career bests.

The women's race saw 300 competitors run the six kilometer course.Â
Mason Bina paced Emporia State with a time of 23:35.6 as she placed 95th overall while
Catherine Lyon was 136th in 24:08.9 as the second Hornet finisher.
Diana Messick ran 24:28.3 to finish in 155th and move into the top three for the Hornets for the first time. Bina ran a seasons best and was just off of her career best for six kilometers, missing by 0.1 second her previous mark of 23:35.5 set at the 2021 NCAA Central Regional.

The Hornets are back in action on Friday, October 11 when they play host to the ESU Invitational at Jones Park. Races are set to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the women's five kilometer to be followed at 4:45 p.m. by the men's eight kilometer race.
