May 24, 2024-There were two meet records and eight stadium all-time bests on day two of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Witten Track.

The host Hornets only had one competitor on Friday.Â
Trenden Collins was 16
th after not clearing a bar in the men's high jump.

Emporia State will be in action in two events pn Saturday. Freshman Mele Tuala will start things with the women's shot put at 11:00 a.m. followed by the javelin at 1:30 p.m. All-American
Travis Morrison will make his final appearance in the Welch Stadium shot put ring at 2:15 p.m. for the Hornets.

There were two more Division II Â records that went down on Friday, making it four in the first two days.

Cheyenne Nesbitt of Saginaw Valley State defended her national championship in the heptathlon with a meet record 6,002 points. She bettered her own meet record of 5861 points that she set last year in Pueblo. She was one of four people who broke the facility record of 5476 points set by Kayla Goodwin of Central Missouri at the 2023 ESU Relays. Goodwin placed eighth this year with 5354 points.

Adams State's Gracie Hyde shattered the championship record with a time of 9:36.95 in the women's 3000m steeplechase. The previous meet record was 9:47.72 set by Western Colorado's Alicja Konieczek in 2018. The top four finishers all ran under the old Witten Track record of 10:17.23 by Korene Hinds accomplished while running unattached at the 2003 ESU Twilight Qualifier.

Hunter Jones scored 7898 points to break Chris Randoph of Seattle Pacific's facility record of 7872 set at the 2006 National Championships.

Titouan Le Grix led a 1-2-3 sweep by Wingate in the 3000m steeplechase. His time of 8:38.15 broke Northwest Missouri's Reece Smith's previous mark of 8:42.50 set at the 2022 MIAA Championships.

Two-time defending women's 100m hurdles national champion Denisha Cartwright of Minnesota State broke Suzanne Dickinson of Abilene Christian's Witten track record of 13.44 set at the 1999 National Championships.

Lenoir-Rhyne's Alexis Brown became the first woman to run under 23 seconds in the 200m. Her time of 22.84 with a 2.5 wind bettered Lorraine Graham of Lincoln's time of 23.06 at the 1997 MIAA Championships.

Alaysia Brooks of Uruline ran 2:06.07 to break Kelly-Ann Beckford of Lincoln's mark of 2:06.41 set in the 20022 MIAA Championships in the 800m.

The final record came int eh final race of the night. Lincoln's foursome of Shoneal Clarke-Giddings, Shevanae Thomas, Odeshia Nanton, and Shantae George ran 3:53.13 in the 4x400m relay to break the Blue Tigers own Witten Track record of 3:38.77 set at the 2022 MIAA Championships. George ran anchor on both teams and was joined on the 2022 team by Kelly-Ann Beckford, Chrissani May and Maria Diamond.

The final day of the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships is set to begin with the men's javelin at 10:30 a.m. Action on the track begins at 2:00 p.m. with the men's 4x100m relay and will wrap up around 6:00 p.m. with the women's 4x400m relay.
