February 9, 2024-Emporia State split their squads into two meets in two states on Friday and came away with a combined 14 top six finishes and a provisional qualifier.
Travis Morrison set another indoor personal best and provisional qualifier with a mark of 18.05m (59-2.75) in the shot put at the Ichabod Invitational. It is the third best mark in Emporia State history in the event indoors.
Connor Deters was sixth in the shot put in Topeka. His mark of 14.89m (48-10.25) was a season's best.
Mele Taula was fifth with a mark of 13.43m (44-0.75) in the women's shot put at the Ichabod Invitational.
Emporia State sent only sprinters and jumpers to the Maverick Premier in Mankato, Minn. and the men came away with a third place finish out of 11 teams while the women placed eighth.
The Hornet men picked up 14 points in the triple jump.
Miles Lockridge placed third with a leap of 13.55m (44-5.00) while
Josiah Driggers was right behind him at 13.52m (44-3.25) to finish fourth.
Daniel Knapp went 12.68m (41-7.25) to place seventh and
Garrett Meyer was eighth with a mark of 12.30m (40-4.25) to round out the scoring in the event.
Ty Anderson finished third with a jump of 6.79m (22-3.50) in the men's long jump and also place seventh with a time of 6.94 in the 60m..
Aaron Hunt and
Max Neeley both cleared 4.36m (14-3.50) in the pole vault with Hunt taking fourth and Neeley sixth on misses.
The Hornets got another fourth and sixth place finish in the men's high jump.
Trenden Collins cleared a collegiate best 1.98m (6-6.00) to place fourth while
Jaxon Russell went over 1.88m (6-2.00) to claim sixth.
Jack Watson had the best finish on the track for the Emporia State men. He ran 48.84 to finish second in the 400m.
Carter Cox was third in the 200m with a time of 22.01 while
Isaac Tarango ran 22.28 to place seventh.
Kingsley Bennett had a personal best of 6.86 to place fifth in the 60m.
Mia Manley had the top finish in Minnesota for the women on Friday. She cleared 3.44m (11-3.50) to place third in the pole vault.
Grace Jacobs had the other scorer for the Emporia State women with a seventh place finish of 1.57m (5-1.75) in the high jump.
Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday in three locations. One group will be in Mankato for the Maverick Premier II, another group will return to Topeka for the second day of the Ichabod Invitational, and
Tyler Swift will represent Emporia State in the mile and 3000m at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan.
