February 10, 2024-Emporia State track and field picked up eight top three finishes, an event championship and two more provisional qualifiers on Saturday at meets in two different states.

Mele Tuala moved into second place all-time in the women's weight throw with a runner-up finish to highlight the Hornets day at the Ichabod Invitational. The freshman threw 17.55m (57-7.00) to pass Heather Leverington (56-6 at the 2001 KSU All-Comers) on the Hornets all-time list. She is currently ranked seventh in the MIAA and 26
th in the nation.

At the Maverick Premier II
Trenden Collins had a provisional qualifier and was one of three second place finishers in Mankato. He cleared 2.07m (6-9.50) to finish second in the men's high jump. He is tenth in the MIAA and 26
th in the nation.

Carter Cox had the only event championship for the Hornets. He ran 22.19 to win the 200m after getting a converted provisional qualifier in the event on Friday.
Isaac Tarango was second to Cox in the 200m with a time of 22.23.

Cox and Tarango then teamed with
Jake Johnson and
Jack Watson to run 3:20.25 to place second in the men's 4x400m relay.

The Hornets had three third place finishes in the jumps in Mankato.Â
Ty Anderson went 6.72m (22-0.75) in the long jump,
Max Neeley cleared 4.48m (14-8.25) in the pole vault, and
Josiah Driggers had a mark of 13.72m (45-0.25) in the triple jump.Â

The jumpers combined for 45 of Emporia State's 79.5 points in the team competition as the Hornets finished second to the host Mavericks.

Tyler Swift rounded out the weekend for Emporia State as he was the lone Hornet competing at the Gorilla Classic. He ran a personal best 8:34.11 to place 13
th in the 3000m run.

Emporia State is tentatively scheduled to compete at the Northwest Missouri Friday Night Lights Last Chance Qualifier on February 16 in Maryville, Mo.
