RACHERBAUMER NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR TO HIGHLIGHT FIVE HORNETS ON ALL-MIAA TEAM

May 5, 2022-Emporia State's TJ Racherbaumer was named the conference Freshman of the Year to highlight five Hornets that earned All-MIAA recognition.  Jared Kengott, Sam Chaput and Blake Carroll joined Racherbaumer on the third-team while Aaron Bechtel was named honorable mention.
 
Racherbaumer is the first Hornet to earn MIAA Freshman of the Year honors since Scott Patrick in 2000.  He also earned Third-Team All-MIAA honors at catcher.  The Hermann, Mo. native is batting .359 on the year in 46 games with an on-base percentage of .459, 10 home runs, 40 RBI and 16 doubles to lead the Hornets.  He has thrown out 19 of 73 would be base runners to rank third in the MIAA.
 
Kengott was named Third-Team All-MIAA as a starting pitcher.  The Addison, Texas native has made 14 appearances with 11 starts. He has a 4.21 ERA in 62.0 innings. He has 45 strikeouts on the season.
 
Chaput is a Third-Team All-MIAA selection in the outfield. The Boisbrand, Quebec native has started all 50 games this season and reached base in 47 of them. He is batting .335 with 14 doubles, seven home runs, 41 runs. 27 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
 
Carroll was named Third-Team All-MIAA at utility player after earning second-team honors last season. The Wichita, Kan. native is batting .299 with a .355 on base percentage, nine doubles, six triples, five home runs, 42 runs and 32 RBI while starting all 50 games. He ranks second in the MIAA with six triples this season and is second all-time at Emporia State with 15 career triples.
 
Becthel was named and honorable mention selection as a starting pitcher. The Wichita, Kan. native has started ten games for the Hornets and has made six relief appearances. He has a team-high 60 strikeouts on the season while only allowing 14 walks in 57.1 innings. The Hornets have been shut out in four of his last nine starts and are averaging just 2.0 runs per game in that time.
 
The Hornets begin play in the MIAA Opening Round Series on Friday night at Central Missouri. Game one will be the 24th meeting in MIAA Tournament play between the Hornets and Mules. They have met in the MIAA Championship game six times. First pitch of game one of the series at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday with game two scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Sunday's if necessary game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
