RACHERBAUMER RAKES AS EMPORIA STATE GETS RUN RULE WIN OVER NEWMAN

TJ Racherbaumer records eight RBI; Hornets take down Jets 16-6 in seven innings

April 9, 2022 – Emporia State powered past Newman 16-6 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon from Glennen Field.

Scoring for both teams began in the first inning. Newman struck first with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. Emporia State wasted no time when they got to the plate with Sam Chaput laying down a bunt single, Javier Pena singling to the left side and Blake Carroll laying down another bunt where the Jets couldn't make a play. With the bases loaded, Noah Geekie hit a chopping ground ball to tie the game 1-1. TJ Racherbaumer broke his first tie of the afternoon with a line drive three-run home run over the left field wall giving the Hornets a 4-1 lead.

The Hornets would load the bases again in the second inning, this time it resulted in a lone run from a sacrifice fly by Blake Carroll.

Over the course of four innings, Newman chipped away at the Hornet lead, eventually taking a 6-5 advantage in the top of the sixth inning.

After Emporia State saw their lead disappear, the offense exploded over the final two innings. Javier Pena got the rally started with his first home run of the season over the left field wall to the game 6-6. Blake Carroll then was hit by a pitch and Noah Geekie drew a walk to bring up TJ Racherbaumer with two runners on in a tie game for the second time in the game. Racherbaumer replicated his first inning at-bat with a three-run home run to left field, giving the Hornets a 9-6 lead.

The Hornet home runs continued Dylan Werries followed Racherbaumer with his first home run of the season. Kadyn Williams became the fourth Hornet to homer in the inning as he launched a ball over the center field wall to go back-to-back-to-back for the Hornets.

After holding the Jets scoreless in the seventh inning, the Hornets went straight back to work at the plate. Blake Carroll doubled with one out and was followed by a Noah Geekie single. After Geekie swiped second base, TJ Racherbaumer singled back up the middle to give him eight RBI in the game. Racherbaumer became the first Hornet since Keith Hernandez against Washburn on May 2, 2008, to record eight RBI in a single game. The Hornets would load the bases yet again before Mason Sturdy was hit by a pitch to give Emporia State a 14-6 lead. Sam Chaput would then single into right field to clinch the run-rule victory 16-6 over Newman.

TJ Racherbaumer went 4-5 with two home runs, eight RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. Sam Chaput went 3-6 with two RBI and a run scored. Kadyn Williams, Javier Pena, and Dylan Werries each had a solo home run.

Emporia State will take on Newman on Sunday afternoon from Glennen Field in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
