April 29, 2022-Severe weather in northwest Kansas shortened the Alex Francis Classic but Emporia State was still able to get six personal bests highlighted by a school record from
Alyssa Conway in the women's hammer throw. Only field events were able to be completed before lightning and severe weather forced the meet to end.
Conway threw a school record 189-8 (57.81m) to win the hammer by over 14 feet. As of Friday night she had moved into the top ten in NCAA Division II at #9 in the nation. She broke her own school record of 189-1 set at last year's Drake Relays.
Holly Brockmeier also had a personal best in the women's hammer. She threw 162-9 (49.60m) to place fifth.
Conway was one of three Hornets to win individual championships.
Elizabeth Schwerdtfeger had a season's best jump of 17-8.25 (5.39m) to win the women's long jump while
Allie Barrett cleared 11-5.75 (3.50m) to win the women's pole vault.
The Emporia State men had two runner-up finishes.
