PAIR OF DOUBLEHEADERS
Due to late-week winter weather, Emporia State will play host to doubleheaders on back-to-back days against visiting Metro St.-Denver.

LAST AT BAT
The Hornets played host to the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves in a four-game series last weekend at Trusler. After falling in both games of a doubleheader (5-0, 2-1) on opening day of the series, Emporia State would bounce back with a 6-5 victory in the third game of the series before clinching a series tie with a 14-3 run rule victory in seven innings on Sunday.

THE COACHES
Seth Wheeler is in his fourth season as the Hornets head coach and enters with a 61-58 record through three seasons. He is 2-2 against Metro State.
Ryan Strain is 94-76 in his fifth season as the head coach of the Roadrunners. He is 2-5 against Emporia State.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
The Hornets are 4-3 on the season. The Hornet offense is led by seniors Sam Chaput and Blake Carroll. Chaput is batting .391 with a .533 on-base percentage. Carroll is close behind with a .333 batting average and an on-base percentage over .400. Last week, Braden Meek was named Mammoth Turf MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week after two appearances with a combined total of 4.1 scoreless innings in relief against CSU-Pueblo.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
The Roadrunners are 3-3 on the season which includes a 1-2 effort against Minot State and most recently a 2-1 series win over MIAA foe Central Oklahoma. The Metro State offense has been led by infielder Bill Ralston who has a .444 batting average in six games with 5 home runs and 12 RBI. In addition to Ralston's hot start, utility player Chase Anderson is batting .400 with a pair of home runs and six RBI.

SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State leads the all-time series 13-3. The Hornets won 11 of the first 12 meetings before the Roadrunners split a four game series in Denver in 2020.

LAST TIME AGAINST METRO STATE
In 2020 before the COVID cancellation, Emporia State traveled to Colorado for a four-game series against Metro State. The Hornets swept a double header, 5-2 and 9-6, on the first day. Jake Barton tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in the opener with Cooper Minnick going two for three with two RBI and two runs scored in the night cap. The Roadrunners returned the favor 11-0 and 7-2 on the second day of action.

UP NEXT
Emporia State is scheduled to travel to Alva, Oklahoma for a single midweek game against Northwestern Oklahoma on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The Hornets then open MIAA play Feb. 25-26 against Northeastern State at the Trusler Sports Complex.
