February 12, 2022-The Emporia State women set two school records and three provisional qualifiers on Saturday as the Hornets competed in two different meets.
 
Jenna Ramsey is now the holder of two indoor distance records for the Emporia State women.  Competing at the Jason's Deli Ichabod Invite at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility the second year freshman ran a school record time of 16:47.90 in the 5000m run.  It is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships. She currently leads the MIAA and is ranked 14^th in the nation in the event.  It was a 25 second improvement on her previous best in the event and broke Jonel Rossbach's Emporia State record of 16:51.62 set at the 2008 Iowa State Classic. Rossbach and Ramsey are the only two women to run under 17 minutes in the 5000m in Emporia State history.  She finished second in the event in Topeka to Western Colorado's Katie Doucette who ran a 16:23.49 and is currently ranked fourth in the nation.

Meanwhile at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan. second year freshman Megan McManis broke her own school record in the pole vault.  In an absolutely loaded competition she cleared a provisional qualifying bar of 12-08.00 (3.86m) and finished seventh. She is currently ranked 24^th in the nation. The top two placers are currently ranked 1-2 in the nation and the top eight finishers all hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark, including Emporia State senior Allie Barrett.  She cleared a personal best of 12-04.00 (3.76m) to place eighth in Pittsburg and rank 35^th nationally.
 
The Emporia State men had three top 20 finishes at the Gorilla Classic.

Xavier Hall had the top finish, placing 11^th with a time of 8.29 in the 60m hurdles. He was just .01 off of his season's best. He is now ranked seventh in the MIAA.

The foursome of Guy Ramos, Juwan Johnson, Jack Watson and Hayden Goodpaster ran 3:17.67 to place 13^th in the 4x400m relay. It is their second best time this year.

After running a provisional time of 6.85 in Friday's qualifying round, Juwan Johnson ran 6.93 to place 19^th in the 60m dash on Saturday. He is currently ranked fifth in the MIAA.
 
Emporia State will get their final tune-ups for the MIAA Championships by splitting the squad again next weekend. The majority of the Hornets will take part in the Steve Miller Invitational at Kansas State while selected athletes will compete at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark.
