SHOW ME SHOWDOWN
Emporia State travels to Central Missouri and Missouri Southern fresh off the Hornets' first two MIAA victories. The match against the #3 Jennies is a rematch from last season's MIAA Championship match.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets returned home for their first two  home conference matches of the season against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western. Mackenzie Dimarco led the Hornets as she recorded a hat trick in both matches, including the the game-winning goal against the Bearcats to secure the 3-2 victory. The Hornets then defeated the Griffons 6-0 to close out the weekend  for their first shutout of the season.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 98-79-29 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 157-102-31 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 3-9-1 against UCM and 6-2-2 against MSSU.
Lewis Theobald is 267-39-22 in his 15th season at UCM. He is 19-3-1 against ESU.
Sade Boswell is 1-9-1 in her first season at MSSU. This is her first meeting against ESU.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 4-4-4 on the season. The attack is led by Mackenzie Dimarco and Hannah Woolery. Dimarco leads the way with 11 goals while Woolery has added seven goals and four assists. Aislinn Hughes has scored three and Haley Sparks has added two of her own. Four other Hornets have also added one goal as Emporia State ranks second in the MIAA in goals.

ABOUT CENTRAL MISSOURI
The Jennies are 11-0-1, 5-0 in the MIAA and are ranked #3 in the latest coaches poll. Central Missouri is leading the MIAA in both goals assists as Jennies average three goals per match.

Central Missouri leads the series 25-6-2.

LAST TIME VS. JENNIES
The Hornets took on the Jennies in the MIAA Championship match last season in the first ever meeting between two ranked teams in the title match. The lone goal came early in the second half off an Aislinn Hughes header from a Hannah Woolery corner kick to give the Hornets the first MIAA Tournament Championship in program history.

ABOUT MISSOURI SOUTHERN
The Lions are 1-9-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in the MIAA under their new head coach. The attack is led by senior Ashley Koepp who has two goals and an assist.

Missouri Southern leads the series 16-8-6.

LAST TIME VS. THE LIONS
Last season, Emporia State defeated Missouri Southern 3-1 after going into the halftime break tied 1-1. Mackenzie Dimarco scored twice in the final fifteen minutes to seal the win for the Hornets.

UP NEXT
Emporia State return home for four consecutive matches from the ESU Pitch to conclude the regular season. The four game stretch will begin with Newman on Friday, October 14 before taking on #21 Central Oklahoma on Sunday, October 16.

MAKE YOUR MARC
Forward Mackenzie Dimarco (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) has 11 goals and one assist with 46 shots and 28 attempts on goal for the Hornets. She leads the Hornets with 23 points on the season. This season, Dimarco passed Brandie Booth in both career goals with 49 and career points as she has eclipsed 100 for her career with 104. She surpassed the 100 point mark in the last match as she recorded her second consecutive hat trick in the Hornets' 6-0 victory over Missouri Western. She is also leading the MIAA in shots, goals, shots on goal and points so far this season. In addition to career marks for Hornet soccer, Dimarco ranks inside the top five in four categories for Division II active career leaders. She is tied for second most goals for all active players while also ranking third in points per game and fourth in goals per game and total points.
Last season, she was named Second Team All-American while also earning First-Team All-MIAA and All-Central region honors. Last season, she ranked third in the nation in total goals, fifth in game winning goals and in shots on goal per game, and seventh in goals per game and total points. She also earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors three times last season. In her career, Dimarco has set multiple Hornet Soccer records in addition to the career goals and points record. She has the most game-winning goals, shots attempted and shots on goal in program history. Last season, Dimarco tied the MIAA record of 20 goals in a season which had originally been set by Jada Scott of Central Missouri a year prior in 2018.

WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder Hannah Woolery (Sr./Overbrook, Kan.) has recorded seven goals and four assists this season with 18 points to rank second on the Hornets. Woolery recorded a goal and a trio of assists against Minot State earlier this season to put her in first place in Hornet soccer history. With her latest assist against Missouri Western, Woolery extended her career record to 18 assists.
In addition to holding the Hornet Soccer record for career assists, Woolery also has posted a top three season in assists, assists per game, shots and shots per game. She also ranks top three in career points and shots on goal. Last season, Woolery earned First-Team All-MIAA as well as First-Team All-Central Region honors after recording nine goals and eight assists. She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance in 2-1 Hornets win over Washburn. As a freshman in 2019, Woolery was named MIAA honorable mention in a season where she tallied five goals and six assists.

WARM COAT
Defender Joanie Westcoat (Sr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is leading the Hornets in minutes played this season as she has played all 90 minutes in nine matches this season. She has four assists on the season from the centerback position with two coming in the last match against Missouri Western on a pair of first half free kicks.
She was named Third-Team All-MIAA last season. She tied for fifth in the MIAA and on the Emporia State single season assist list with six in 2021. She was twice named Defender of the Week in the MIAA last year.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Midfielder Aislinn Hughes (Gr./McPherson, Kan.) has started 11 of 12 matches this season and has played in all but one match in her career for the Hornets. Earlier this season, she recorded a game-winning goal against Minot State which was her ninth of her career as she now sits in third place in Hornet Soccer history. In the last match against Missouri Western, Hughes scored her third goal of the season, and 20th of her career after heading in a free kick from Joanie Westcoat in the first half.
She was named third-team All-MIAA in 2021 after earning honorable mention in 2019.  She was second in the MIAA with six game winning goals and was fourth with 11 total goals last season. She had the game tying and game winning goals in Emporia State's 4-3 double overtime win against Central Missouri and then scored the game winner in the MIAA Championship match against the Jennies.

HEY ALEXIS
Forward Alexis Cole (Sr./Leavenworth, Kan.) has started in all 12 games this season for the Hornet soccer team and throughout her career has appeared in 54 of 55 matches for Emporia State. In the two previous seasons, Cole was an important substitution on the wings for the Hornets and has transtitioned to a starting role this season. She scored her first goal of the season and second her career against Minot State with a second half goal on a Hannah Woolery assist. Her first assist of the season came to open the Hornet scoring against Nebraska-Kearney as she returned the favori to set up Woolery with a goal. She recorded another assist in the last match against Missouri Western with a pass to Haley Sparks. Cole scored her first career goal came last season in the second half against Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after she redirected a loose ball in the box to solidify the Hornets' 2-0 win over the Bearcats.

SPARKS FLY
Forward Haley Sparks (So./Park City, Kan.) is in her sophomore season with the Hornets. Sparks has played in all 12 matches this season while making nine starts. In her two seasons with the Hornets, she has played in 35 of 37 matches. She has two goals and two assists on the season. Sparks assisted Erica Self in the first half against Northeastern State before adding her first goal of the season in the second half. She found the net for a second time this season in the last match against Missouri Western on a shot from 40 yards out near the Emporia State bench.

SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE
Midfielder Angela Palmer (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) has played in all 12 matches this season for the Hornets while making six starts. In her career at Emporia State, Palmer has played in 34 of 35 matches. She has one assist and one goal on the season which is also her first career goal. In the second half against UMary earlier this season, Palmer scored following a Dimarco assist.

SELF MADE
Forward Erica Self (Gr./Topeka, Kan) is in her sixth season as a graduate student for the Hornets. Self has played in all 12 matches this season and in 67 matches for her career. She scored in the first half against Northeastern State for her first goal of the season and recorded a pair of assists in the match against Northwest Missouri.

ROE THE BOAT
Midfielder Kyleigh Roe (Jr./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) is in her junior season with the Hornets and she has played in all 12 matches for the Hornets while making nine starts. She has record two assists on the season and is one of five Hornets with two assists. Last season, Roe recorded four goals and one assist with one of her four goals being a game-winning overtime goal in the last matchup with Missouri Western.

BACHMAN BACKLINE
Defender Abby Bachman (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has transitioned quickly into the lineup for the Hornets as she has started all 12 matches for Emporia State to begin the season. Bachman has been consistent for the backline as she has played all but 42 minutes this season and is second on the Hornets in minutes played.

ICELANDIC INTERNATIONAL
Defender Asta Kristindottir (Fr./Seltjarnarnes, Iceland) has started 11 of 12 matches in her first season and has played over 75% of the total minutes this season. In addition to her importance in the backline, she has also tallied two assists which is tied for third with four other players this season.

LAMPE LIGHT
Midfielder Mikayla Lampe (Fr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) has played in 11 of 12 matches in her freshman season for the Hornets and scored her first career goal in the last match against Missouri Western. Lampe won possession back from the Griffons before scoring from the top of the box with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner.

MANIFEST DESTINY
Forward Destiny Hoy (Fr./Wichita, Kan.) has started 11 of 12 matches and played just under half of the minutes this season in her freshman campaign with the Hornets. Hoy has recorded nine shots this season with at least one in eight of the last nine matches with two attempts on goal.

IN GOAL
Keepers Tori Bailey (Sr./Papillion, Neb.) and Mackenzi Goen (Fr./Hurst, Texas) have split time in goal this season. They combined for a shutout against Missouri Western on Sunday
Bailey started the first three matches before leaving the UMary game with an injury. She came back to start against Neb.-Kearney. She has recorded 24 saves in 502:40 of action with a 1.79 goals against average.
Goen has played in eight matches and has made five starts.  She has 24 saves in 577:00 worth of action with a 1.40 goals against average.

TOUGH TEST
The 2022 schedule is likely the most difficult in the history of the ESU Soccer program. Only three games this season come against teams with below a .500 record in 2021. So far this season, the Hornets have taken on #16 West Texas A&M, as well as St. Edwards and Fort Hays State twice who are both receiving votes in the latest poll. Including the upcoming match against the #3 Jennies, the Hornets have two matches against top 25 teams in the final six matches with Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma on the schedule. The Hornets also played against UMary and Minot State in the non-conference slate and both teams are currently ranked in the top ten of the Central Region.

RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual single season school records and moved into the top three in a trio of other categories.  Hornets have also set ten individual career records. This season, three Hornet records have been broken as Mackenzie Dimarco surpassed Brandie Booth and career goals and career points as she now has 49 career goals and 104 career points. Hannah Woolery broke the career assists record with a hat trick of assists against Minot State earlier this season. After adding another assist in the last match against Missouri Western, Woolery has 18 career assists.

MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emporia State's Mackenzie Dimarco earned MIAA Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring six goals in two Hornet wins last week.
Dimarco became the first player in MIAA history to score hat tricks in back-to-back matches as the Hornets went 2-0 last weekend, running their unbeaten string to seven matches.
The senior forward scored ESU's first goal against Northwest Missouri to tie the match at 1-1 in the 31st minute. She then gave ESU a 2-1 lead in the 41st minute. After the Bearcats evened the match late in the second half, Dimarco scored the game winner in the 80th minute for 3-2 win. Two days later, Dimarco opened the scoring against Missouri Western with a goal in the 17th minute and made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. She scored the final goal of the 6-0 win on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

MIAA NOTES
The MIAA currently has two teams ranked in the top eleven in the nation. In the latest Central Region rankings, the MIAA holds six of the top ten spots, including four of the top five. Last season was the first season in MIAA history that both participants in the Tournament Championship Match were nationally ranked in the Top 25 when the Hornets took on the Jennies. The MIAA currently has two teams ranked inside the top 25 of the last coaches poll. With the national rankings came an updated Central Region ranking which includes five MIAA teams inside the top seven teams.
