2022 WSOC Bryan Sailer

Bryan Sailer

Bryan Sailer capped off his tenth season as the head women's soccer coach at Emporia State with the school's first MIAA Tournament Championship and their first NCAA Tournament win. He is 94-75-25 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 153-98-27 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Hornets won a school record 19 matches in 2021 including a 9-2-1 record in MIAA play.  After winning the MIAA Tournament championship with a 1-0 victory at Central Missouri, they advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons. After the right to host one of the regional tournaments, they defeated Northwest Missouri 2-0 in their first home NCAA Tournament match before ending the season 19-3-1..

Emporia State went undefeated during the COVID spring regular season in 2021 before falling in the MIAA spring crossover.

Sailer led the Hornets to a 13-4-3 record in 2019, just missing the NCAA Tournament. Entering the MIAA Tournament ranked seventh in the region, Emporia State fell on penalty kicks in the MIAA Tournament semifinals and missed the NCAA Tournament thanks to a non-ranked automatic qualifier.

Emporia State won a then school record 14 matches and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in school history in 2018.  The Hornets went undefeated at home, going 8-0-0 at the newly renovated ESU Pitch on the way to a 14-6-1 overall record.  They were 8-3-0 in MIAA play to finish third in the MIAA.  They defeated Northeastern State 2-1 in the first post season home game in Hornet soccer history to advance to the MIAA semifinals for the second time in school history. The season ended with a 2-1 overtime loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Edmond, Okla.

The Hornets finished 8-9-2 in 2017, the fifth straight year they ended the regular season with a .500 or better record.

In 2016, Sailer’s Hornets finished the season with a 8-9-2 overall record and a 6-5-0 record in conference play.

In 2015, Sailer led the Hornets to a 9-8-1 record, the first time the program had three non losing seasons in a row. He had five Hornets named to the all-conference MIAA teams, seven on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and two MIAA Scholar-Athletes.

Sailer had a break through year in 2013, leading the Hornets to just the second winning record in the 13 year history of the program.

After combining for seven wins in his first two years (which was more than Emporia State had in the previous four years combined), Sailer led the Hornets to a 9-8-3 record in 2013.  They advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals for the first time in school history and set a program record with ten shutouts on the season.

Taking over a team that had won one game the year before, the win total increased in each of the first three years under Sailer.  The Hornets went 3-10-5 in his first year and 4-11-2 in 2012 before the nine win season in 2013.

Sailer has been a winner everywhere he has coached with a combined collegiate and high school record of 338-141-37 at four schools, including a 59-23-2 record in four years at Barton CC in Great Bend, Kan. He was tabbed the Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year in 2008 after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record in his second season at the helm. The 18 wins were a school record for a season and the four best single season win totals came under his watch. During his four years the Cougars set records for the most goals in a game and season as well as nearly every individual mark.
Prior to Barton, Sailer spent ten years teaching and coaching in the Colorado High School system. He was the head boy’s soccer coach at Greeley West HS for two seasons, posting a record of 38-24-2 and a Northern Conference Championship. He began his coaching career as the girls and boys head coach at Fort Collins HS. His girl’s teams were 92-10-3 record, winning the conference championship every year and reaching the state championship match in 2003. He was tabbed Conference Coach of the Year three times and Colorado Coach of the Year once. He also coached the boy’s team for four seasons at Fort Collins HS, going 55-11-3 with thee conference titles and was a two-time Conference Coach of the Year.
Sailer played collegiately at Monroe Community College and was an all-conference pick at State University of New York-Brockport after graduating from Monroe.
