Jane Grimley-Gunn has announced the addition of
Josue Rivas to the Hornet coaching staff.
Rivas comes to Emporia State from Sporting Nebraska FC, coaching multiple Girls Academy teams, while also serving as an assistant coach at West Side HS in Omaha. He spent nearly five years on staff at Creighton University. Â His time with the Blue Jays was highlighted by an 8-4-8 record in 2022 that included a trip to the Big East Championship Semifinals.
He holds his USSF B License, PSFA Level II Talent Identification, FC Barcelona Tactical Analyst and Level I Match Analysis certifications.
Rivas began playing in the El Salvador Youth Development League under World Cup Player Jamie Alberto Rodriguez. He was a part of the Bellevue Soccer Club from 2005-09 and played at Bellevue West HS in 2008-09. He also played for FC Dallas Camp in 2009.
Emporia State went 9-6-5 in the 2025 season and advanced to the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament after a quarterfinal comeback win over #16 Washburn on the road. They are set to open the 2026 season on Thursday, August 27 at Drury with the home opener set for Saturday, August 29 against Maryville.
