TURNPIKE TUSSLE TIME
Emporia State heads up the Kansas Turnpike to take on Washburn for the first time since the 2019 season.

LAST AT BAT
Emporia State split their doubleheader at Newman on Saturday to win the three game series 2-1.  The Hornets won 24-9 in the first game before Newman took a 9-8 victory in the second game after a 21-16 win on Friday.
The Hornets scored 21 runs in the final four innings of a 24-9 win in the first game of the day. Emporia State was held to under ten runs for just the second time in the last seven games as Newman walked off with a 9-8 win to salvage the final game of the series.

THE COACHES
Seth Wheeler is 50-43 in his third season as the Hornets head coach. He is 2-1 against Washburn.
Harley Douglas is 149-146 in his seventh year as head coach for the Ichabods. He is 7-13 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 10-14, 6-12 in the MIAA. As a team they are hitting .308 with a 6.75 ERA and .950 fielding percentage. Brady Michel is leading the MIAA with a .438 batting average and ranks second with a .511 on base percentage. He has reached base safely in 17 straight games. Blake Carroll is leading the nation with five triples. Cooper Minnick is third in the MIAA with 27 runs scored. Jake Barton is 4-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 47 strikeouts. He is second in the MIAA in strikeouts and ninth in opponents batting average. Rane Pfeifer is second in the MIAA allowing opponents a .170 batting average but is just 0-4 on the season.

Emporia State leads the Turnpike Tussle with an all-time record of 176-77-1. The Hornets have won seven of the last ten meetings but have only played three of those games in Emporia.

LAST AT BAT AGAINST WASHBURN
Emporia State gave seven runs in the first three innings as they fell to Washburn 7-3 in the final game of the 2019 Turnpike Tussle in Topeka. Brian Grove was three for four wiht two runs and an RBI while Lou Penner hit a solo home run. The Hornets had won the first two games in Topeka 4-1 and 11-3 to take the three game series 2-1.
