April 25, 2021-The Emporia State baseball team was swept by Northeastern State on Sunday. The Hornets fell 10-4 in the first game and 12-4 in the second.
Game 1
The Hornets led 2-0 early but a seven run sixth inning gave the RiverHawks the lead for good in a 10-4 win in the matinee.
Blake Carroll led off with a home run to put the Hornets up 1-0 one pitch into the game. Emporia State took advantage of two Northeastern State errors in the second inning. After a

Brigham Mooney tried to sacrifice him over but Chaput was out at second for a fielder's choice. Seth Key tried to pick Mooney off at first and threw the ball away, allowing Mooney to go to third where NSU third baseman Jaxon Phipps could not handle the ball and it went into the dugout allowing Mooney to score.
The RiverHawks got on the board with an RBI double by Brayden Rodden in the third to make it 2-1. Hornet starter
Jake Barton allowed just the one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in the first 5.0 innings. That changed in the sixth as the first five RiverHawks reached base with Phipps delivering the big blow with a three run home run. After a walk
Coleton Crisp relieved Barton and got a strike out before Reid Cherry lofted a fly ball to left that popped out of
Quinn Cherry's glove putting runners on second and third. A sac fly made it 6-2 and Rodden's second RBI double of the game made it 7-2. They went up 8-2 when
Jack Maki could not handle a sharp grounder to second.
Fehr hit a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 10-2 before
Cooper Minnick hit a two run homer in the top of the ninth for the final score.
Blake Carroll went four for five with a homer, two runs, and an RBI while
Cooper Minnick was two for three with a homer, two walks, two RBI and a run scored.
Game 2
Northeastern State scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed on the way to a 12-4 win in the nightcap.
The first two RiverHawks walked in the first and eventually scored on an RBI double by Blake Freeman and a ground out by CD White. Freeman would come home on a single by Jaxon Phipps before Hornet starter
Jared Kengott got a strikeout to end the inning.
Brady Michel pulled the Hornets within a run with a lead off home in the second but a double play ended the inning. The RiverHawks added a run with two outs in the second and would get another two out run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 5-1.
Christian Roduner hit another lead off homer in the fifth for Emporia State to pull within 5-2 and Michel hit an RBI single that scored Chandler Bloomer to make it 5-3 in the sixth.
Malachi Crone relieved Kengott to start the sixth and got two outs before giving up an RBI double to Brayden Rodden and an RBI single to Collin Klingensmith to make it 7-3.
Northeastern State scored five runs in the eighth to blow the game open. White had the big hit in the inning for the RiverHawks when a bases loaded double scored three runs. Pinch hitter
Javier Pena was hit by a pitch to start the ninth and would score on a pinch hit double by Patryck Hernandez for the final score.
Jared Kengott gave up five runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts in 5.0 innings but walked four.
Brady Michel was three for four with a home run, two RBI and a run scored while
Christian Roduner was two for four with a solo home run.
The two teams will finish up the three game series with a single game on Monday in Tahlequah, Okla. First pitch from Rousey Field is set for 12:00 pm.
