SERIOUS SERIES
Emporia State and Missouri Western meet at Trusler in a three game series with both teams battling for a spot in the MIAA Baseball Tournament.
LAST AT BAT
Emporia State was only out hit 9-6 but they did not capitalize on their opportunities in a 12-1 loss to Pittsburg State on Tuesday night in non-conference action. Four of the Gorillas hits went for extra bases while the Hornets six hits were all singles.
THE COACHES
Seth Wheeler is 51-46 in his third season as the Hornets head coach. He is 3-2 against Missouri Western.
Buzz Verduzco is 599-472 in his 22nd year as head coach of the Griffons. He is 31-52 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS

Jake Barton took a no hitter into the sixth and allowed one run on three hits in eight innings but Missouri Western's Casey Danley hit a three run homer in the top of the ninth as the Hornets fell 4-2 to the Griffons in the 2019 MIAA Tournament. Barton hit Zach Pych to lead off the top of the sixth and Danley broke up the no hitter with a single through the right side that sent him to third. After a line out to first Dusty Stroup hit a sac fly to plate Pych and give the Griffons a 1-0 lead. Tanner Arst then delivered a single that scored two runs to give the Hornets the lead. Danley delivered a three run homer with two outs in the ninth to give Western a 4-2 lead.
