March 30, 2021-Emporia State got out to an early lead and then had to come back on the way to a 10-9 road win at Pittsburg State on Tuesday evening.

After a scoreless first,
Noah Geekie reached on an error with two outs in the top of the second.Â
Brigham Mooney followed with an RBI double to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Â They added two more in the third on a
Blake Carroll homer and RBI double by
Brady Michel that scored
Cooper Minnick. Michel made it 4-0 with an RBI single and Minnick scored on a double play to make it 5-0 in the fifth.

Pitt State answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hector Carrillo had the big hit with a three run double.
Jarrett Seaton then relieved
Zachary Ebert and got a ground out before Cruz Aranda singled in Carrillo to make it 5-4. The Gorillas would tie it up when Minnick's attempted pick off sailed into left field allowing Garrett McGowan to score and make it 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Koval then gave Pitt State the lead with a two run homer with two outs in the seventh.
Coleton Crisp came on in relief of Seaton and got a fly out to end the inning.

Ryan Krolikowski led off the top of the eight with a single and was replaced by
Quinn Cherry who promptly stole second.Â
Noah Geekie followed with an RBI single to make it 7-6. Mooney walked to put runners on first and second.  With two outs Minnick laced a single through the left side to plate Geekie and tied the game at 7-7. Following a wild pitch Michel was intentionally walked to load the bases and
Sam Chaput gave the Hornets the lead at 9-7 with a two run single to right. Pinch hitter
Patryk Hernandez walked to load the bases and Cherry singled to give Emporia State a 10-7 lead.

The Gorillas would load the bases in the bottom of the eighth but Crisp would strike out Aranda to leave the loaded as the Hornets took a 10-7 lead to the ninth. Emporia State loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth put Pitt State was able to turn a double play to end the inning with no runs scoring. McGowan hit a two run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to pull Pitt State within a run at 10-9 but Crisp was able to get Carr to pop up to second to end the game.

Brady Michel went three for five with two RBI, a run scored, a walk and a double.Â
Cooper Minnick was two for three, was hit three times, scored three runs, stole two bases and had an RBI.
Brigham Mooney was three for four with three doubles, a run and an RBI.Â
Coleton Crisp worked the final 2.1 innings to get the win, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Emporia State will travel to Wichita this weekend for a three game MIAA series at Newman. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday at McCarthy Field.
