April 2, 2021-Emporia State erupted for 21 runs on 20 hits on the way to a 21-16 victory at Newman on Friday afternoon in Wichita.

Sam Chaput and Ryan Krowlikowski each had RBI singles in the first to put Emporia State up 2-0. The Jets got one run back in the bottom of the inning before the Hornets scored four in the top of the second.Â
Brady Michel had the big hit in the inning a three run homer to left.

Newman scored a single run in the bottom of the third but the Hornets responded with three in the top of the third.Â
Brigham Mooney started the rally with a single and stolen base.Â
Noah Geekie drove him home on a triple and then scored himself on a double by
Jack Maki. Maki would come home on a single by Cooper Minick as the Hornets took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the third.

Devin Beard hit a three run homer in the bottom of the third and the Hornets were retired in order for the only time in the game in the top of the fourth. The Jets would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth with a two run home run by Tyler Push and a two RBI double from Mitchell Austin to make it 9-9.

Mooney started another rally in the top of the fifth with a leadoff triple and he scored on error by the Jets shortstop.  Maki and Minnick would each get hit by a pitch before a Chandler Bloomer single plated Maki. Michel would be the third Hornet to get hit in the inning to load the bases. Chaput then laced a single up the middle to score two and Krowlikowski followed with a two run single of his own to make it 15-9.Â
Jarrett Seaton, who had come in with one out in the fourth proceeded to pitch a shutdown bottom of the fifth as the Hornets took a six run lead to the sixth inning.

Geekie led off the sixth with a walk and went to second on a passed ball. Minnick would drive him in with a single and then came home himself on a double by Bloomer. The Jets scored an unearned run in the sixth but the Hornets responded in the seventh with a two run homer by Mooney to take a 19-10 lead into the seventh inning stretch.

Newman got four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Austin delivered the big blow with a bases loaded double that cleared the bases and forced a pitching change for Emporia State.Â
Zachary Ebert came in and got a strikeout to end the inning. Minnick led off the top of the eighth with a double and Bloomer followed with a walk. A double steal put runners at second and third and Chaput hit a sac fly to give Emporia State their 20th run of the game.

Ebert struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the eighth before Zach Hargrove hit a solo home run. The final run for Emporai State came in the top of the ninth on a sac fly from Minnick that scored Maki. Ebert started the bottom of the ninth with two more strikeouts before giving up a walk and a double and then ended the game with his sixth strikeout of the day.

Every Emporia State starter had at least one hit and either a run scored or RBI while five Hornets had at least three RBI.Â
Cooper Minnick was four for five with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Â Â Chandler Bloomer was three for five with a double, three RBI and two runs scored while
Brady Michel was one for four with a home run, a walk, a hit by pitch, three RBI and three runs scored. Ryan Krolokowski was two for four with three RBI and
Sam Chaput went two for five with four RBI and a run scored.
Noah Geekie and Brigham Moody each had two RBI and three runs scored with Geekie going two for five with a walk while Moody was three for six with a triple and a home run.Â
Jack Maki scored four runs with an RBI while going two for three with two walks and getting hit once.

Jarrett Seaton went 3.1 innings to pick up the win. He allowed five runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Zachary Ebert worked the final 2.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

The two teams will wrap up their three game series with a double header on Saturday at McCarthy Field in Wichita. First pitch of game one is set for 12 noon.
NOTES:
The last time Emporia State scored 20 runs in a game was in a 22-8 win over Missouri S&T on February 17, 2017.
Brady Michel extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
