SCHOOL RECORD, TWO PROVISIONALS AND TWO EVENT CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR ESU TRACK ON OPENING WEEKEND

December 5, 2021-Emporia State had two event champions, two provisional qualifiers and a school record over the weekend at the Boo Rogers Combined Multis and the Crimson & Gold Invitational at Pittsburg State.

Allie Barrett started things for the Hornet women with a school record of 12-02.00 (3.71m) in the pole vault. She broke Maggie Wilson's previous mark of 12-01.50 set at the 2013 Jayhawk Invitational. Barrett placed ninth in the competition and is ranked 14^th in the nation after the first weekend of competition.

Just two weeks after her first trip to the NCAA Cross Country National Champoinships, Jenna Ramsey started the indoor season with a provisional qualifier in the 5000m. Her time of 17:13.47 was good for third in the race, is the third best time in Emporia State history in the event and currently ranks 13^th in the nation.

Emporia State's men got a pair of event championships on the track. Guy Ramos won the 400m with a time of 49.28 which ranks fifth in the nation after the first weekend. Hayden Goodpaster ran a personal best 1:12.16 to win the 600 yard run. The two of them combined with Jack Watson and Jamill Phillips to finish second in the 4x400m relay. Their time of 3:18.50 ranks fourth in the nation after one week of competition.

After getting one meet under their belts, the Hornets will take some time off from competition to concentrate on finals before going on the semester break. The next action for Emporia State is scheduled to be the UCM Invitational on January 21 in Warrensburg, Mo.
