BIG WEEKEND
The #15 Hornets return home for a pair of matches. They take on Missouri Southern Friday afternoon from the ESU pitch and will finish the weekend with a pivotal match against #8 Central Missouri.

LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State suffered their first defeat of the season in Edmond, Oklahoma against Central Oklahoma by a score of 2-1. The Hornets took the lead in the first 90 seconds of the match on a goal by Mackenzie Dimarco on an assist from Liz Palmer. Central Oklahoma took the lead with two first-half goals and was able to hang on for the 2-1 victory over the Hornets. Emporia State bounced back quickly with a Sunday afternoon match against Newman which they won 2-1. Aislinn Hughes scored the first goal to put the Hornets in front as she received a Joanie Westcoat free-kick. Mackenzie Dimarco would add to the total after receiving a long ball from Ashlynn Lakin. Newman would answer with a goal late in the second half but the Hornets held on for the victory.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 87-73-25 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 146-96-27 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 5-2-2 against MSSU and 1-9-1 against UCM.
Aaron Tilsen is 6-23-2 in his third year at MSSU. He is 0-1-0 against Emporia State.
Lewis Theobold is 248-36-11 in his 14th season for Central Missouri. He is 19-1-1 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 12-1-1, 6-1-0 in the MIAA and ranked #15 in the nation. They are leading the MIAA in scoring and rank second in defense. Mackenzie Dimarco leads the MIAA in points and is tied for the lead in goals scored.

ABOUT MISSOURI SOUTHERN
The Lions are 3-9-2 and 2-5-0 in the MIAA. They rank second in the MIAA in saves and have three shutouts on the season.

SERIES HISTORY
Missouri Southern leads the all-time series 17-7-6, but the Hornets have won the last four against the Lions.

LAST TIME VS. THE LIONS
Emporia State traveled to Joplin and took down the Lions 3-1 in 2019. The Hornets had control of most of the match, due mostly to three first-half goals.

ABOUT CENTRAL MISSOURI
The Jennies are 12-1-1, 6-0-1 in the MIAA and are ranked #8 in the country. The Jennies are first in shots and second in points in the MIAA, directly behind the Hornets.

SERIES HISTORY
The Jennies lead the all-time series 25-4-2 over the Hornets. This is the first meeting in Emporia since a 3-1 Emporia State win  in 2018.

LAST TIME VS. JENNIES
Emporia State fell in OT 3-2 at Central Missouri. The Hornets scored late to take 2-1 lead before the Jennies tied the match on a penalty kick and eventually won in overtime.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will travel to Washburn and Neb.-Kearney to finish the regular season.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Emporia State players have earned seven MIAA Soccer Athlete of the Week awards this season.
Joanie Westcoat has twice been named the Defender of the Week, first on September 14 and most recently on October 12.
Mackenzie Dimarco has picked up two Offensive Player of the Week awards, first on September 14 and again on September 28.
Ashlyn Lakin was named the MIAA Defender of the Week on September 21.
Hannah Woolery was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week on September 21
Jillian Patton earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors on September 28.

RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual school records and moved into the top five in three other categories.  Hornets have also set four individual career records.
Mackenzie Dimarco holds Emporia State single season records for points, points per game, goals, goals per game, game winning goals, shots attempted, and shots per game.  She is the career record holder for game winning goals, shots and shots on goal.
Jillian Patton has the Emporia State career record for wins in goal.

THE MARC
Forward Mackenzie Dimarco (Soph./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) is leading the MIAA in goals and shots this season and is ranked second in points and game winning goals. She had her second career hat trick against Neb.-Kearney on the way to the second of her two MIAA Offensive Player of the Week awards.
She was the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Central Region selection in 2019.  She had a school record 18 goals and 40 points scored on her way to MIAA Freshman of the Year honors as well.  The 18 goals rank fourth and her 40 points rank tenth on the MIAA single season list. She also has the Emporia State single season records for points per game, goals per game, shots attempted and shots per game as well as the career mark for game winning goals, shots and shots on goal.
She is a two-time MIAA Offensive Player of the Week this season and earned the honor one time during her record setting freshman campaign.

FLIPPING OUT
Defender Ashlyn Lakin (Jr./Wichita, Kan.)  is fourth in the MIAA in assists this season with five, four of them on flip throw ins. She scored her first career goal against Rogers State.
She earned second-team All-MIAA and All-Central Region honors as a sophomore in 2018 before sitting out the 2019 season with a knee injury.
She was named MIAA Defender of the Week on September 21 of this season.

WARM COAT
Defender Joanie Westcoat (Soph./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is second in the MIAA in assists with six, most of which have come off corner kicks. She has three goals on the season.
She has been named MIAA Defender of the Week twice this season.

WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder Hannah Woolery (Soph./Overbrook, Kan.) is fourth in the MIAA in points, fifth in goals and eighth in total assists this season. She has two multiple goal games this season, most recently scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory over Washburn.
She was an honorable mention All-MIAA performer as a freshman in 2019.
She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week on September 21 following her two goal effort against the Ichabods.

PATTON PENDING
Keeper Jillian Patton (Jr./Olathe, Kan.) is third in the MIAA in goals against average and is sixth with three shutouts on the season.  
She was a second-team All-MIAA selection as a freshman in 2018.
She was named the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week on September 28 after posting 135 minutes without allowing a goal including the first half against Neb.-Kearney and a full shutout of Fort Hays State.

ALL-MIAA HONORS
In addition to the already mentioned athletes, three other current Hornets have earned All-MIAA honors in their career. Sydney Martens (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) was an honorable mention All-MIAA defender as a freshman in 2018 before earning third-team honors as a sophomore in 2019. Kailey Corr (Grad./Wichita, Kan.) was named honorable mention All-MIAA on defense and Aislinn Hughes (Jr./McPherson,Kan.) earned honorable mention honors at midfield in 2019.
