2006 ESU SB Seniors at World SeriesMay 22, 2020-On this day in 2006 the Emporia State softball team wrapped up their first trip to the NCAA Division II World Series with an appearance in the National Championship game in Salem, Va.
 
The Hornets opened the World Series with a 9-1 win over Georgia College & State University on May 18, 2006. Channon Nitz went two for three with a three run home run and five RBI. Chelsea McClernon and Bree Beatttie each homered for Emporia State.
 
The second game of the World Series went 11 innings before the Hornets fell 1-0 to Florida Southern on May 19. Courtney Reed and Melissa Stevens combined to scatter six hits with 14 strikeouts in the circle for Emporia State but the Moccasins got an unearned run in the top fo the 11th for the win.
 
Channon Nitz hit her second home run of the World Series in the top of the eighth inning to give Emporia State a 4-3 win over Central Oklahoma in their first elimination game on May 20.
 
Playing two games on a day for the first time in the World Series Megan Davison hit her 23rd homer of the year and Channon Nitz had her third round tripper of the 2006 World Series as Emporia State defeated Cal. State-Bakersfield 4-1.
 
In a rematch against Fla. Southern on May 21, Courtney Stevens singled in Shelbe Hughes in the bottom of the seventh as Emporia State walked off with a 2-1 win and a spot in the D2 National Championship Game. Melissa Stevens gave up one unearned run on one hit as she won her 30th game of the year.
 
In the National Championship game Lock Haven scored three runs in the second inning and that would be all the scoring as the Hornets fell 3-0.
 
The Hornets finished the season 62-7 setting MIAA single season records with 62 wins including a 21 game conference winning streak and 404 runs scored.Individually Megan Davison had a then MIAA single season record 23 home runs and 73 RBI while Bree Beattie scored a still record 74 runs.
