NORTH BY NORTHWEST
The Hornets play host to Northwest Missouri to wrap up a ten game home stand.

LAST AT BAT
Emporia State swept a three game series with Missouri Southern to open MIAA play at Trusler. The Hornets won game one 12-6, took the second game 12-0 and wrapped up the series with a 10-6 victory. Sam Chaput hit .417 during the three game series with a two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored.  Jake Barton had ten strikeouts in 8.0 innings of the opener, Jerod Kengott and Jarrett Seaton combined on a shutout in game two with Kengott striking out seven in 7.0 innings. Seaton threw 3.2 scoreless innings in relief in the final game.

THE COACHES
Seth Wheeler is 38-28 in his second season as the Hornets head coach. He is 0-3 against Northwest Missouri.
Darin Loe is 525-514 in his 21st year at Northwest Missouri and 681-665 in his 27th year as a head coach. He is 28-49 against Emporia State.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 11-6 on the season. As a team they are ranked eighth in the league in batting average at .274 but lead the league with a .410 on base percentage. They have a team ERA of 5.00 and have turned a league high 14 double plays in 17 games. Blake Carroll is in the top ten of the MIAA in on base percentage, runs scored, triples, walks and stolen bases. Jake Barton ranks third in the MIAA with 44 strikeouts and is ninth with a 3.49 ERA.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Northwest Missouri is 6-11 on the season and 1-2 in the MIAA. The Bearcats opened the season 5-2 before dropping eight straight with seven of them on the road. They are fourth in the MIAA with a .288 batting average but rank tenth with a 6.95 team ERA and .963 fielding percentage. Connor Quick is leading the MIAA with a .444 batting average.

SERIES HISTORY
The Hornets lead the all-time series 62-39 but the Bearcats have won six of the last seven. The lone Emporia State win was a 15-2 run rule win in the 2018 MIAA Tournament.

LAST TIME AGAINST MO. SOUTHERN
Emporia State jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one inning but could not hold the lead in a 12-6 loss to Northwest Missouri at the Trusler Sports Complex. Ryan Lee gave up three runs, one of them earned, through the first six innings but the Bearcats scored eight runs in the seventh and eighth inning to pick up the win. Brian Grove was three for five with a homer, two runs and an RBI for the Hornets while Aaron Dees went three for four with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI.

UP NEXT
The Hornets hit the road to Edmond, Okla. next weekend for a three game series with Central Oklahoma. The first game at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond, Okla. is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13 with game two set for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and the series finale at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
