EMPORIA STATE BASEBALL FALLS IN SERIES FINALE AGAINST NEB.-KEARNEY

The Hornets fall 11-3 in game three against the Lopers

April 9, 2018- Emporia State fell in their series finale against Neb.-Kearney on Monday.  The Hornets lost 11-3 in game three against the Lopers.
 
In the top of the first, the Lopers would score three runs off of two home runs.  The Hornets would respond in the bottom of the frame as Brian Grove led off the inning with a walk.  After moving over to second on a groundout, Grove would come home to score on an infield single from Kaden Shaffer to make the score 3-1.  After a clean second inning, the Lopers would score four runs in the third and a run in the fourth.  After the Lopers scored a run in the fifth, Tanner Arst hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth as the Hornets trailed 9-2.  The Lopers would add a run in the sixth, but the Hornets would come through with another solo home run in the bottom of the frame.  Bryce Fischer hit his tenth home run on the season to left center to make the score 10-3 in favor of the Lopers.  The Hornets would get a scoring chance in the bottom of the eighth as Fischer hit a two-out double.  He would move over to third on Shaffer's single through the left side, but both would be left stranded.  The Lopers added a run in the ninth as the Hornets fell 11-3 in the series finale.    
 
Bryce Fischer was two for three at the plate with a double and a home run.  Kaden Shaffer had three hits in the game to give him his 13th multi-hit game of the season.  Tanner Arst was one for three with a walk and hit his third home run of the year.  Max Simpson made his sixth start of the season on the hill for the Hornets.  Adam Theis pitched two innings of relief and Drew Scrimsher pitched the final four innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. 
 
The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, April 11 as they face Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle.  First pitch from Topeka, Kan. is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
