2018: First season with Emporia State, Max threw 64.1 innings with a 5.04 era. He appeared in 17 games while starting 9 times for the hornets as they would go on to appear in a Super Regional.

2017: His second year at OSU he threw 5.1 innings, recorded 6 strikeouts and gave up 5 earned runs.

2016: As a sophomore, Simpson transferred to Oklahoma State University. His first year he threw two innings before suffering from an arm injury and got a medical redshirt.

2015: As a freshman, Simpson attended Hutchinson CC. He appeared in 17 games with four starts and had a 7-2 record with a save and 2.37 ERA. He recorded 85 strikeouts in 60.2 innings and was named Jayhawks West Pitcher of the Year.
 
Simpson is majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing.
