March 25, 2018- Emporia State baseball fell Sunday 1-0 to Missouri Southern. The Hornets finish the weekend series 2-1.
It was a defensive battle from the start with neither team scoring in scheduled innings. The Hornets outhit the Lions 5-4 in the game. The Lions took advantage of a Hornet error and a walk in the bottom of the tenth inning. With a runner on first and second, the Lions singled through the left side to drive in the runner on second to take the 1-0 win in extra innings.
Bryce Fischer led the Hornets at the plate with two hits in four at bats followed by Kaden Shaffer, Brian Grove and Trevor Turner each with one hit.
Max Simpson started on the mound for the Hornets, pitching six and two thirds innings allowing just one hit with four K's before being replaced by Nathan Gieber. Gieber pitched three innings allowing one run on three hits with two K's.
The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday, March 27 as they host Washburn in the first Turnpike Tussle of the 2018 baseball season.
