April 7, 2017-The Emporia State women's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles, but could not hold on in singles play as they lost 6-3 to Washburn in the tennis edition of the Turnpike Tussle on Friday afternoon on the Milton Courts at the Kossover Complex in Emporia.
The Hornets got 8-4 wins at #1 doubles by Tawni Griffey and Camila Ramos and #3 doubles from Amy Fugit and Tahlia Walsh for a 2-1 lead after doubles.Â
The Ichabods won the first three completed singles matches to take a 4-2 lead before Kaley Clark took a three set win, 6-0, 5-7, 6-0, at #4 singles. Washburn would win the final two singles matches to take the 6-3 win.
The next action for the Hornet women is scheduled to be against Newman on Tuesday, April 11 on the Milton Courts. The Emporia State men will play their part of the Turnpike Tussle on Saturday, April 8 starting at 2:00 p.m. on the Milton Courts.
