HORNET SOFTBALL SWEEPS LINDENWOOD AT TURNBULL

Emporia State shuts out the Lions in both games, winning 1-0 in game one and 4-0 in game two

March 24, 2017 - The Hornet softball team improved to 20-16 on the season, and 6-4 in the MIAA with a sweep of Lindenwood on Friday afternoon. Emporia State shut out the Lions in both games, taking game one 1-0 and winning game two 4-0.

GAME ONE
Eryn Stockman allowed just two hits in the first game, pitching a complete game with two strikeouts and no walks. The only run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cassidy Berry singled down the left field line to plate Jacie Stephens. The Hornets had four hits in game one and no errors.

GAME TWO
Stockman pitched another complete game to total two for the day, allowing no runs on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts this time. The first two innings were scoreless between the two teams before Emporia State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Annie Rockley single through the right side that scored Caitlin VanVleck. The next two innings were also scoreless until the Hornets scored another three in the bottom of the sixth to cushion their lead. Stephens singled up the middle to score Sarah Glass to put Emporia State ahead 2-0 with one out. Stephens would then score on a Danielle Sprinkle sac fly to go up 3-0. The final run for the Hornets was scored when Hailey Cope singled up the middle to plate Berry. Berry hit two for three in game two, totaling three for six on the day. She also had three stolen bases on the day.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will host Lincoln on Saturday, March 25 in a double header that begins at 1:00 p.m. The games will be played on Turnbull Field at the Trusler Sports Complex.
