September 11, 2015-Emporia State had good individual runners at the lead but could not break up the Newman harriers well enough to avoid a pair of losses in dual competition on Friday night at the Cessna Activity Center in Wichita.

Daniel Claassen won the men's race with a cross country personal best of 26:18.1 on the eight kilometer course.  However the next six runners were all Jets before Brian Newkirk came across in eighth place. The Jets took the team competition 20-42.

For the women Emily Schoenfeld ran 19.23.8 over the 5K course to finish second to Clara Lane of Newman.  Taylor Steuve was the next best finisher for Emporia State, placing eighth as Newman won the dual 19-42.

The Hornets will travel to their first major meet of the season next weekend when they take part in the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
