THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 5-11-5 in his second season at Emporia State. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season. During his four years, the Cougars broke records for the most goals in a game and season as well as nearly every individual mark.
Brian Bahl is in his fifth season with Upper Iowa. He has an overall record of 53-40-15 in charge of the Peacocks.
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State struck in both halves to win 2-1 over Augustana (S.D.) in the 2012 home opener.
Sarah Crawford scored her first career goal for the Hornets in the 39th minute. Crawford took a deflection in the Augie penalty area, and stroked it into the lower left corner with a left footed shot. Five minutes into the second half, Emporia State earned a corner, taken by

Mindi Lozenski, who headed the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out. Emporia State conceded an own goal ten minutes later, but were able to hold off the Vikings and secure a 2-1 victory in the home opener.
FOUR GOALS, FOUR GOAL SCORERS
The Hornets have forced four goals in three games, with four different players finding the score sheet.
Ashleigh Harris scored the first goal of the season, and with her assist versus Augustana (S.D.), leads the team in scoring with three points.
Elizabeth High scored the Hornets’ lone tally versus Southwest Oklahoma State, her first with the Hornets. Crawford scored as a substitute, last accomplished on Oct. 6, 2011 versus Fort Hays State. Lozenski’s header was the junior midfielder’s first career goal, coming in her 27th career appearance. Emporia State had nine different players score a total of 17 goals a year ago.
BACK LINE STALWARTS
Emporia State’s back line is composed of two sophomores,
Ashlyn Parker and
Shannon Thomas, and two freshmen,
Emily Haselwood and
Katie Wolfe. They have played every minute this season, and shut out East Central in the season opener.

This is the first ever meeting between Upper Iowa and Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS
Upper Iowa hosted the Peacock Classic to open 2012 and won both its games, defeating MIAA foe Southwest Baptist 2-1 and Maryville 1-0. Upper Iowa had an overall record of 9-7-4 in 2011, with a 4-3-1 overall home record, going 1-1 against non-conference opponents. The Peacocks return junior goalkeeper Amanda Smith, who started all 19 games last season and posted a 1.24 goals against average. Leading scorer Elizabeth Kaluzinski also returns after scoring nine goals a year ago.
STARTING WELL
Emporia State won its home opener for the first time since the 2006 season when they defeated East Central. The Hornets have also scored in each of their first three games for the first time since 2008. Emporia State’s 2-1 record is their best start after three games since 2008 as well.
