November 9, 2025 – Emporia State soccer fell behind Washburn early on Sunday afternoon, but would not be denied in their second matchup with the Ichabods in four days, as they rallied back to complete the 3-2 comeback and advance to the MIAA Semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Washburn took less than two minutes to claim an advantage, as Mackinly Rohn scored to put the Ichabods ahead 1-0. The Ichabods continued their control of the match over the next fifteen minutes, and in the 18th minute, the lead was doubled as Emporia State fell behind 2-0 before recording a shot.
The Hornets spent much of the first half defending against the Ichabod attack, and on their first opportunity in the 34th minute, which proved to cut the deficit in half.
Aubrey Seltman held possession along the right side, and crossed the ball into the box where
Ella Favot was waiting to head the ball into the top left corner.
The score remained 2-1 entering the halftime break, with the Ichabods holding just a 4-2 shot advantage over the Hornets.
Following the break, the attacks for both teams ramped up, with both teams having two shots in the first ten minutes of the second half. On the third attempt of the half for the Hornets,
Ruby Ryan delivered the equalizer, converted an excellent corner kick by
Abby Bachman to make the score 2-2.
Washburn tallied a trio of shots over the next six minutes, but none were successful, and the Hornets used their next opportunity to take the lead. In the 65th minute, the ball came to
Kylie Richardson nearly 30 yards from goal, and after one touch, the freshman from Liberty, Missouri delivered a strike into the top right corner to put the Hornets ahead 3-2.
Over the final 25 minutes, the Hornets withstood the Ichabod attack, which included three saves by
Mackenzi Goen in the final five minutes to seal the 3-2 comeback win.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State had ten shots with seven attempts on target in the match. Favot's goal was her seventh of the season, while Ryan and Richardson each scored their first. Richardson's goal was the game-winner and the first of her Hornet career.

Emporia State advances to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals which will take place in Wichita on Thursday, November 13. The Hornets will take on #6 seed Central Oklahoma.
