August 7, 2026 – As the 2026-27 school year approaches, Emporia State volleyball is set to begin training camp on Monday in preparation of year four under head coach Ken Murczek.
 
The Hornets reported this week and after team meetings and photo opportunities, they will begin practice on Monday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m. with a second practice in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Practices will be held in the volleyball practice gym in the HPER building.
 
Emporia State's first exhibition action will be on Saturday, August 15 before the Hornets have off on Monday, August 17 for the first day of classes. The regular practice schedule will begin on Tuesday, August 18 with practices at 3:00 p.m.
 
Emporia State will be on the road for another exhibition weekend on Saturday, August 22. The regular season then opens with the Hornets traveling north to Big Rapids, Mich. on August 27-29 for four matches at the Ferris State Tournament. Emporia State will take on Minnesota State at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27 with matches against Illinois-Springfield, Ferris State and Purdue Northwest over the next two days.
 
The Hornet home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 as they host Pittsburg State at White Auditorium.
 
Emporia State went 21-7 last season, and 12-4 in the MIAA, with a final ranking of 23 in the AVCA poll, 21 in the final KPI standings and eighth in the central region. The Hornets also picked up four ranked wins in 2025, including a season sweep over Nebraska-Kearney, who was ranked in the top three for both matchups.
