June 10, 2026-Baseball coach John Martin has announced Hornet alum Ty Barclay has returned to Emporia State as a member of the coaching staff.
 
Barclay has experience in the MIAA after spending last season at Missouri Southern. The Lions went 34-19, 26-10 in the MIAA during his one season in Joplin. He spent four years from 2022-25 seasons as an assistant coach at UMary of the NSIC.  

Barclay earned All-Jayhawk conference honors at Garden City CC before transferring to Emporia State. He started 33 of 38 games played for the Hornets. He hit .317 with a .404 on base percentage as a junior in 2019.  He was named Best Teammate and Team Captain during the COVID shortened 2020 season. For his final season, Barclay spent his grad transfer year at UMary where he hit .320 and led the Marauders to the NSIC Tournament. 
 
The Wyoming, Ontario, Canada native is married to former Hornet softball player Cassidy Beem. He has a bachelor's degree in communication from Emporia State, and a master's in business administration from UMary.
