Hornet Tennis Players End Season Nationally Ranked

Hornets teams are both ranked in Top Ten of Central Region

2025 Emporia State Tennis Nationally Ranked Players

May 30, 2025-Emporia State's Anton Sarunic finished the 2025 season ranked #24 in the nation while the Hornet doubles team of Gwendal Mazuay and Alexis Mattenberger were ranked #45 in the year end ITA rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point. Sarunic and the doubles team were all ranked eighth in the Central Region while as a team the Hornets were ranked seventh in the region.
  
Sarunic went 16-8 overall this year with a 9-6 mark this spring in dual competition at the #1 singles slot. 

Mattenberger and Mazuay were 12-8 on the spring in doubles going 4-0 at #3, 6-7 at #1 and 2-1 at the #2 position.

As a team the Emporia State men finished the spring 11-8 overall and advanced to the MIAA-GAC Tournament.  It was the first trip to the post season for the Hornet men since they competed in the 2019 MIAA Tournament prior to the MIAA and GAC joining into a scheduling alliance for the 2019-20 school year.
 
The Emporia State women were ranked #10 in the final ITA Central Regional Rankings. The Hornets finished the season 10-10 with a 5-4 conference record and advanced to the MIAA Tournament as the #5 seed.  They fell 4-3 to eventual MIAA champion Central Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.
