April 21, 2025-Emporia State will formally introduce MJ Baker as the next Lady Hornet basketball coach on Thursday, April 24 at 2:30 p.m. in the Skyline Room of the ESU Memorial Union.
The Hornet Revue will be on hand to welcome fans before Emporia State Director of Athletics
David Spafford formally introduces Baker at 2:30 p.m. Â Spafford and Baker will both take questions from the podium and will be available after the formal press conference for interviews along with selected Lady Hornet players.
Baker is the ninth head coach of the Lady Hornet basketball program and comes to Emporia State from Eastern Florida State College. She was 183-58 in eight seasons with the Titans and led them to three conference championships and three trips to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. A proven recruiter and developer of talent, 41 of her players at Eastern Florida have received full ride scholarships at four year institutions with 24 going on to NCAA Division I. She is 334-148 in 18 seasons as a collegiate head coach and has led every school she has coached to at least one 20 win season.
Off the court of her Titan squads has produced at least a 3.2 team GPA with her 2021 team posting a 3.84 to rank second in the nation in the NJCAA. At this year's Women's Final Four in Tampa, Baker was presented the Kay Yow "Heart of a Coach Award by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Named for the late North Carolina State coaching icon Kay Yow, the "Heart of a Coach" Award is presented annually by FCA to honor a basketball coach who has exemplified biblical principles over the course of his or her career.
