Hornet men picked sixth, women ninth in preseason poll

December 4, 2025-The Emporia State men are picked for sixth and the women ninth in the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches Poll. Both the men and women return all of their NCAA Provisional qualifiers from last year.
 
The Hornet men return 55 of the 57 points from last year's MIAA Indoor Championships where they placed fifth. Junior Jonah Remsberg is the defending MIAA Champion in the heptathlon. The Hornets return two bronze medalists, junior Connor Deters in the shot put and sophomore Israel Domeh in the 200m.  Domeh joins juniors Bryson Turner, Braden Lipgens and Emmanuel Dukpe off the fourth place 4x400m relay.  Lipgens was fourth in the 600 yard run while Dukpe placed fifth in the open 400m.  Senior Luke Grace joins Remsberg as a returning scorer in the heptathlon, placing fourth last season. Sophomore Will Allen was fifth in the high jump last year.  The Hornets also return sixth place finishers junior Max Neeley in the pole vault, junior Cooper Schroer in the 800m and senior Ty Anderson in the long jump with Anderson also earning a point in the 60m last season.
 
The Emporia State women bring back nine points from last year, but will also return Mele Tuala who won the MIAA championship in the shot put as a freshman in 2024 before sitting out last season with a medical redshirt.  Sophomore Isabella Davie placed fifth in the pentathlon last season and was a member of the 4x400m relay that placed sixth and the distance medley relay that finished in seventh place.  Davie was joined on the DMR by returners senior Mason Bina, sophomore Barbara Bentum and sophomore Emma Bartholome with Bentum and Bina as members of the 4x400m returning. Emporia State also returns senior Madison Vermetten who was a provisional qualifier in the weight throw last season.
 
The Hornets will begin the indoor season on Saturday, December 6 at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
