Jamison Sarver has been named the MIAA Football Offensive Player of the Week, presented by FieldTurf.
In his first start as a true freshman Sarver led Emporia State to a come from behind win at Central Missouri finishing with 288 yards on 25 of 41 passing with two touchdowns.
The Olathe North HS graduate went seven of seven for 98 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter as he rallied the Hornets from a 27-17 deficit at start the fourth quarter for a 31-27 win. He started the fourth quarter by completing a 13 yard pass to
Kingsley Bennett on fourth and two and then threaded the needle on an 11 yard touchdown strike to
Max Middleton to get ESU within 27-24. After the defense forced a three and out he led the Hornets on a ten play, 64 yard touchdown drive to take the lead. He was three for three passing for 46 yards on the drive. He twice converted third downs with passes and scrambled for eight yards on third and six to set up the final touchdown. After another UCM punt, he milked 5:31 off the clock in an 11 play drive that left UCM with just 1:28 and no timeouts.
He is the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Emporia State since Braxton Marstall in 2014 and the first to make his Hornet debut in a starting role.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday when they play host to #14 Northwest Missouri. Kick-off for the Hornets Homecoming game at Jones Field at Welch Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m.
