Eight Hornets Named CSC Academic All-District in Football

January 7, 2025-The Emporia State football team had eight Hornets named Academic All-District as selected by College Sports Communicators. Trenden Collins, Caden Dodson, Rafe Goucher, Lavon Jones, Tyler Kahmann, Ethan Schultze, Tyler Schultze and Tommy Zimmerman were all named CSC Academic All-District for their work in the classroom.
 
Trenden Collins has a 3.60 GPA in Computer Science and was named Third-Team All-MIAA as a receiver. The sophomore from Muldrow, Okla. was third in the MIAA with 76 receptions on the year while finishing sixth with 791 receiving yards.
 
Caden Dodson has a 3.66 GPA in Sports Leadership and earned honorable mention All-MIAA as a kicker. The junior from Argyle, Texas set the Emporia State career record with 53 consecutive made PATs and ranks third all-time at Emporia State with 28 made field goals.
 
Rafe Goucher has a 3.73 Graduate GPA after graduating with a 3.63 GPA in business and was a Second-Team All-MIAA performer on the defensive line. The El Reno, Okla. native anchored the middle of the Hornet defensive line and was 17th in the MIAA in tackles for loss this season. He had a career high three TFL at Northwest Missouri.
 
Lavon Jones has a 3.94 GPA in Sports Leadership and was an honorable mention All-MIAA linebacker. The senior from St. Louis, Mo. had 57 tackles on the season with seven for a loss.
 
Tyler Kahmann has a 4.00 Graduate GPA after graduating with a 3.74 GPA in Business and is a consensus First-Team All-American receiver on the field. The Haysville, Kan. native is a two-time first-team D2CCCA All-Region selection, two time first-team All-MIAA selection and was a unanimous pick for all-conference this year. He led the nation in receiving yards per game, receptions per game and touchdown catches.  His 1,488 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns set Emporia State single season records while his 100 catches are second all-time at Emporia State to his 101 receptions last season in 12 games.  He is the MIAA record holder with 54 career touchdown grabs and set the MIAA single game record with 296 receiving yards against Neb.-Kearney.  He holds virtually every Emporia State single game, single season and career receiving record.  In his career he has 3,686 receiving yards on 282 receptions and 54 touchdowns. His five touchdown receptions against Neb.-Kearney are also a school record.

Ethan Schultze has a 3.97 GPA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The sophomore from DeSoto, Kan. was fourth in the MIAA in punt returns while pulling in 27 receptions for 258 yards and a touchdown as a receiver.
 
Tyler Schultze has a 3.98 GPA in Physics and was a Third-Team All-MIAA selection at defensive back. The sophomore for DeSoto, Kan. led the MIAA in interceptions with five and was 11th in the nation in the category.  He is second in the MIAA and sixth in the nation in passes defended.  His five interceptions rank eighth on the Emporia State single season list.

Zimmerman has a 3.72 GPA in Sports Leadership. He was a two-time All-MIAA selection at tight end/fullback for the Hornets. The Overland Park native finished his career with 99 career receptions, 1,174 career yards and 13 career touchdowns.

To be nominated, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests/sets played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the games with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced January 28.

The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially supported financially by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the program.
