Hornets coming off second consecutive trip to Central Regional Final

August 7, 2024 – Emporia State soccer is ranked #17 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll ahead of the 2024 season.
 
Coming off their second straight NCAA Central Regional Final appearance, Emporia State soccer will open the 2024 season ranked one spot above the final ranking for the Hornets at the end of the 2023 campaign. This marks the third consecutive season that the Hornets have started the season within the top 20 of the United Soccer Coaches rankings.
 
Emporia State brings back six returners with over 1,000 minutes played and ten players that played over 500 minutes last season as the Hornets finished 14-6-4, after starting the season 0-3-3.
 
Defenders Aubree Blackman and Abby Bachman played the second and third-most minutes for Emporia State in 2023 and return to anchor the Hornet backline. Hadlie Lowe is the leading goal scorer among the returning players with six goals last season, including one in all three matches of the MIAA Tournament. Mackenzi Goen started 30 matches in her first two seasons with the Hornets, including 22 starts last season.
 
Other key returners include defenders Asta Kristindottir and Ava Smith, midfielder Paige Putter and attackers Ali Coash, Haley Sparks and Karlie Kanaga who all played over 500 minutes in 2023.
 
The Hornets will begin team meeting on Monday, August 12 with their first practice on Wednesday, August 14. The first action for the Hornets in the preseason is a scrimmage against Butler CC on Sunday, August 18.
 
Emporia State's first regular season match will be on Friday, September 6 at Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
