June 24, 2024 – Emporia State soccer has released their 2024 schedule, which includes 17 matches with seven taking place at the ESU Pitch.

Emporia State will open the season with a road match against Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn. It is the third all-time meeting between the Hornets and Mavericks. The first meeting between the two happened in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional in 2018 and they met again last season as the Hornets and Mavericks played to a 0-0 draw in a neutral site match in Kansas City.

The Hornets will stay in Mankato for their second match, a neutral site contest against Southwest Minnesota State. Emporia State has two all-time meetings with the Mustangs, with the Hornets winning the first meeting 4-0 in 2004 before playing to a 2-2 draw in the following season.

Emporia State's NSIC non-conference trip will continue with matches against Northern State and UMary. The Hornets have one meeting against both the Wolves and Maruaders, falling to Northern State 0-1 in overtime in 2001 and 1-2 in 2022 against UMary.

The home opener for the Hornets will be on September 18 as they take on Drury in the final non-conference match. It is the first regular season Wednesday match since 2013. Emporia State is 2-2 all-time against the Panthers with both teams scoring six goals across the four meetings. The Hornets took the last matchup 2-0 in 2018.

MIAA action begins with home matches against Newman on September 27 and Central Oklahoma on September 29. The Hornets are 5-2-1 all-time against the Jets and are unbeaten across the last five matches while winning the last three matchups. Emporia State has split the last four matches with the Bronchos, including winning in Edmond 2-1 last season.

The first road MIAA test will come against Fort Hays State on October 6. The Hornets and Tigers have met six times over the past two seasons. Emporia State has defeated Fort Hays State in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional each of the last two seasons.

Emporia State will then return home for two matches. The Hornets will take on first-year program Pittsburg State on October 11, and then take on Missouri Southern on October 13. The Hornets will look to continue their seven-match winning streak against the Lions.

The Hornets will then hit the road for four matches, with the first two coming in the Sooner State against Rogers State on October 18 and Northeastern State on October 20. Emporia State is 2-0-2 against the Hillcats all-time and have won four of the last five against the Riverhawks.

Emporia State will then travel to Nebraska-Kearney on October 25. The Hornets have won 11 consecutive matches and are unbeaten in 12 straight against the Lopers. Emporia State's road trip will wrap up in Warrensburg, Mo. with a match against Central Missouri on October 27. The Hornets have won five of the last seven against the Jennies while six of the last seven matches have been decided by one goal.

The month of November for Emporia State will begin against Missouri Western on November 1 at the ESU Pitch. The Hornets have won four straight in this matchup and have outscored the Griffons 18-6 over the last four meetings.

The final road match of the season will take place in Maryville, Mo. against Northwest Missouri on November 3. Emporia State is 9-0-1 in the last ten meetings against the Bearcats, which includes three wins in the MIAA Tournament for the Hornets over the last three seasons.

The Turnpike Tussle against Washburn at the ESU Pitch on November 6 will wrap up the regular season. The Hornets and Ichabods have met eight times in the past three seasons, including four in 2023 and have split the matchups 4-4 with seven of the eight meetings decided by just one goal.

The first round of the MIAA Tournament will be held on Sunday, November 10 at the four highest seeds. The semifinals and finals will be played on November 15 and 17.

Emporia State is set to return ten players with over 500 minutes played in 2023 for the first season under head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn.
