March 28, 2024 - Head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn announced the addition of three players that will be attending Emporia State next year and playing soccer for the Hornets. Allysa Wolf, Taylor McFalls and Lily Simpson will be joining the Hornets as freshman next season.
Wolf attended Freeburg Community High School in Freeburg, Illinois and played club soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher ECRL IL. With Freeburg, she was named IHSSCA All-Sectional, All-Conference and All-State for her 2023 season. Wolf was also named to the west squad for the Continental Tire ECNL RL Selection Game.
Grimley-Gunn on Wolf: "Allysa is going to be a big-time addition for our program. We've seen her play in goal on countless occasions, and have consistently been impressed with her ability, presence, and leadership."
McFalls attended Bennington High School in Bennington, Nebraska and played club soccer for Sporting Iowa ECNL. With Bennington, she was named All-Midlands Conference and Honorable Mention All-State and has helped lead the Badgers to the NSAA Class B State Tournament each of the last two seasons. She has the school record for most goals in a single game with 7 and recorded a team-high six assists last season. McFalls also was invited to the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional ID Invitational.
Grimley-Gunn on McFalls: "Taylor is a high energy player who loves to compete and holds herself to the highest standard. She will bring a strong work ethic and unique skillset to our program."
Simpson attended Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky. For the Generals in the 2023 season, Simpson was named KHSAA First Team All-Region and All-State as she tallied 19 goals and five assists. She was also named Lexington First Team All-City. In addition to her time with Lafayette, Simpson also plays for Lexington Sporting Club Girls Academy where she was an Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) Midwest Regional Invitee.
Grimley-Gunn on Simpson: "Lily will be a huge addition to our program due to her versatility. She's always willing to step up and can put the ball in the back of the net and take care of business defensively."
In addition to the newcomers, Emporia State is set to return ten players that played over 500 minutes last season after the Hornets went 14-6-4 with an MIAA Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Central Region Championship match.
