March 19, 2024-With today being the first day of Spring, it is appropriate that Emporia State football will be starting Spring Practices today. It will be the first of 15 dates for the defending Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl Champions.
 
The Hornets will open spring practice at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, March 19 and are scheduled to get in three practices a week for the five weeks. Some of the practices may be moved due to ongoing construction at Welch Stadium to prepare for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
 
There will be a Junior Day on Saturday, April 6 for potential future Hornets. Contact Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Daniel Goodman for more information about the Junior Day.
 
The final spring practice is scheduled for Friday, April 19.  The past and present will come together that Friday evening starting with an alumni tailgate at 4:00 p.m. followed by the combined Spring Game/Legends Game at 7:00 p.m. in Welch Stadium. The first half of the spring game will highlight the current Hornets in an intrasquad scrimmage.  At half-time the members of the 2023 Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl team will receive their championship rings.  The Spring Game will wrap up with the Legends Game featuring Hornet alumni in a flag football game.
 
The Hornets are 18-6 over the last two seasons, the second-best record in the MIAA over that time.  They are set to return ten players on offense and seven on defense that started the Heritage Bowl.  Last year was the eighth time in the last 11 seasons that Emporia State has advanced to the post season.
