Emporia State begins an eight-game home stand with a pair of doubleheaders against Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Saturday.

THE COACHES
Brad Hill is 2-1 in his first season as the Hornets head coach and has a career record of 888-483-3.
Robby Bales is 117-87 in his sixth season at Mines. This is his first meeting against the Hornets.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State was picked eighth in the MIAA Preseason Poll entering the first season under head coach Brad Hill and went 2-1 at the Edmond First Pitch Classic to open the season. On the mound eight pitchers appeared on the opening weekend, including Cade Barton and Ian Lanik who each made one start. Barton allowed just one run and six hits across 6.1 innings against East Central and Ian Lanik allowed two runs in 5.0 innings against NM Highlands. At the plate, ten different Hornets recorded an RBI with Konner Hatfield and TJ Racherbaumer leading the way with seven and six respectively. Racherbaumer is batting .400 with two home runs and six runs scored while Patryk Hernandez has a team-high .462 batting average across 15 plate appearances. Hatfield went 4-6 with a double, home run, and six RBI in the 15-5 win over New Mexico Highlands. 

SCOUTING THE OREDIGGERS
Colorado School of Mines enters the weekend series with the Hornets 0-2 this season following a pair of game last weekend in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Orediggers were picked fourth in the RMAC Preseason Poll after finishing 22-25 and 17-15 in conference play last season. Junior infielder Canon Humphreys leads the way with a .333 average and .429 on-base percentage this season. Wayne Moeck, an outfielder from San Diego, Calif. has two home runs and a team-high 1.518 OPS in the first two games of the season. On the mound, Ben Schoneman pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit in the season opener. 

SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State leads the all-time series 8-0 with the last meeting happening in 2015. The last four game-series between the Hornets and Orediggers was played in 2009.

LAST MEETING VS. MINES
Emporia State took on Mines in a midweek matchup on March 11, 2015. The Hornets came back to beat the Orediggers 12-8.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will remain home for a four-game series against CSU-Pueblo from Glennen Field. The games against the Timberwolves are slated for February 16-18.
