RETURN OF THE RMAC
Emporia State is set to host their second consecutive RMAC opponent as the Hornets take on CSU-Pueblo from Glennen Field.
THE COACHES
Brad Hill is 5-2 in his first season as the Hornets head coach and has a career record of 891-484-3.
Bobby Applegate is 52-58 in his third season at CSU-Pueblo. He is 2-2 against the Hornets.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is in their first season under head coach Brad Hill and the Hornets are 5-2 through the first two weekends. On the mound nine pitchers have made multiple appearances with Cade Barton and Ian Lanik each having two starts and a 1-0 record. Barton has a 1.46 ERA across 12.1 innings with nine hits allowed while Lanik has a 1.50 ERA after tossing a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts against Mines last weekend. At the plate, six different Hornets have recorded three or more RBI including Konner Hatfield and Mason Sturdy who have eight ech. Hatfield has a team-high .409 average and 1.071 OPS. Patryk Hernandez is batting .333 with a .919 OPS, two doubles, a home run and three RBI. TJ Racherbaumer has two home runs and six RBI and has added three walks with an on-base percentage of .360.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERWOLVES
Colorado State-Pueblo is 3-0 this season and were slated third in the RMAC Preseason Poll. The Thunderwolves are led offensively by five hitters with averages of .333 or better inlcuding Kade Snodgrass and Brad Stone who are hitting .571 and .500 respectively. Both Snodgrass and Stone have a team-high six RBI. On the mound, Curtis Tyler is 1-0 with with a 1.80 ERA in 5.0 innings while Travis Farrell has a save and three scoreless innings pitched.
SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State leads the all-time series 10-9 with the last meeting coming two years ago from Glennen Field.
LAST MEETING VS. CSU-PUEBLO
The Hornets and Thunderwolves met in the early stages of the 2022 season for a four-game series. CSU-Pueblo took the first two games before Emporia State took the final two games, including a 14-3 win in the series final in a game that included two hits and two RBI from Kadyn Williams.
UP NEXT
The Hornets return to the Sooner State for a midweek matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma on Feb. 20 before traveling to Maryville, Mo. for the beginning of MIAA action. Emporia State will take on Northwest Missouri on Feb. 23-25.
