December 18, 2024-The awards are coming in for Emporia State receiver
Tyler Kahmann. The grad student from Haysville, Kan. was named First-Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) on Wednesday.
Â
This is Kahmann's first AFCA All-American honor after being named All-American by the Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association, Associate Press, D2Football.com and Hansen's Football Gazette last season.
Â
This year he was named first-team D2CCCA All-Region for the second straight season. He is a two-time first-team All-MIAA selection and was a unanimous pick this year. He leads the nation in receiving yards per game, receptions per game and touchdown catches. His 1,488 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns set Emporia State single season records while his 100 catches are second all-time at ESU to his 101 receptions last season in 12 games.Â
Â
He is the MIAA record holder with 54 career touchdown grabs and set the MIAA single game record with 296 receiving yards against Neb.-Kearney. He holds virtually every Emporia State single game, single season and career receiving record. In his career he has 3,686 receiving yards on 282 receptions and 54 touchdowns. His five touchdown receptions against Neb.-Kearney are also a school record.
Kahmann becomes the sixth Hornet to earn AFCA All-American honors and the second in three seasons. Â Â
The AFCA's Division II All-America Selection Committee is made up of a committee chairman, a district representative head coach from each of the AFCA districts in each division, and two committeemen in each district who are also head coaches. The selection committees in each division conduct a conference call to select the team. The committee chairman and the district representatives are on the call. The district committeemen are not. Prior to the call, the district chairmen and his committeemen are responsible for gathering information on worthy players in their districts.
The MIAA had seven of the 52 players named All-American, the most of any single conference. Super Region-3 accounted for 20 honors, nearly twice as many as any other Super Region..
Â
The Hornets finished the season 7-4, their third straight season with at least seven wins. They are one of only two MIAA teams to win at least seven games in each of the last three seasons.
